According to the UK 'Daily Mail', Ron Dennis  delivered a 'motivational' speech to the McLaren team prior to Monaco.

The paper reveals that:

McLaren chairman Ron Dennis tells team staff to pull their fingers out after point-less start and blasts racing director Eric Boullier
  • McLaren chairman Ron Dennis shocked 500 staff with criticism of them
  • He singled out Eric Boullier and said he had had 'a good kick in the a***'
  • One member of staff said the post-race debrief was negative to morale

Tabloid shock horror link

Tough talking Ron is not known for his people skills.

But a McLaren spokesperson, when challenged, insists that Ron's remarks were good humoured and taken entirely out of context.

Jenson Button, also challenged about his comments in Spain, has also changed his story about 'the scariest laps of his life' and is now saying he may have exaggerated.

Is the McLaren-Honda honeymoon period now officially over?

Absolutely, but this(if true at all) is 100% Ron. In the end, he will be kicked in the behind, and told very firmly to sit back and relax in the shareholder's VIP, and shut the xxxk up.

Humorous speech indeed. Lets hope none of the 500 staff delivers the punchline at the local copy shop.

This is not the first time Dennis ruled by fear, and it won't be the last time. Nothing new, this is how the guy operates.

Well Eric is clearly using The Force to shut Ron up here... so I guess we know where the real power lies.

What Boullier actually said was: "I might be fat, but you are an old fart, I can always diet."

They deserve that if true. What is most interesting is that McLaren only has 500 people, lack of results and sponsors is showing.

It is clearly Martin Whitmarsh and Sam Michaels fault.

I have a rule that any story that begins with 'according to the Daily Mail', can, more likely than not, be considered total bullsh*t.

That's a very good rule to have in place.

The Daily Mail.

“His (Dennis’) rhetoric can sometimes be challenging, but it is always inspirational,” the spokesman said.

I'll agree with the first part, but I'm not sure about the second. :p

Or as Ron might say, the veracity of the referred to averment presently remains nebulous. Or something.

Well, I can imagine they're getting desperate. They have been in the upper midfield for a few years and now they are not even there. How many years can they survive? When they abandoned Merc for Honda, I thought they knew something we didn't. It turned out they didn't know what most of us did. I like McLaren, heck, I even like Ron, so I hope they will get it together but I fear they have at least 3 more years of misery.

He will certainly want to take all the credit, but I don't think he will get it on this forum.

Who hasn't been chewed out by a boss? It usually means you are doing something wrong. You shouldn't take it so personally. Ron is under a lot of pressure which can be overwhelming.

Let us face it, they have competition from RedBull-Renault in that department this year... they've both decided to do worse than last year, and how.

There will be no takers, don't think anyone would want to pay good money for the current Mclaren

If Honda abandons ship, I think Mclaren will be hard pressed finding a replacement. Admittedly, the Japanese haven't delivered yet as some expected but can't get away from the feeling there is something inherently part of Mclaren that makes real success either unreachable or unsustainable

Can anyone recall whether it was Ron or Martin who decided that Brawn should have Merc engines in 09?

That remains a monumentally stupid decision and spelt the downfall of this once-great team. :|
