It looks like I might have a chance to go watch the Hungarian Grand Prix this summer due to a trip there at the same time.

I don't know much about the track and haven't seen many races on TV.
Does anyone know what parts of the track to look to get tickets to? Any good turns/passing places?

Cheers.

I prefer general admission tickets to grandstand tickets really. They're cheaper and they let you walk around the track, whilst with a grandstand ticket you're pretty much tied to one place.

I prefer this spot:

you can see everything from about turn 10 up until the first half of main straight, it has 2 led screens right across the track, and is a perfect place for the initial part of the start as well.

bad news is, I shot this picture about 10 minutes after gate opening. :D and the best spot, the edge of the hill was already taken all way long.

the end of the main straight is good as well, you can see the end of the start, the "overtaking spot", and also has screens. I think that is the gold 4 stand, but that is much more expensive than the GA tickets.

I got gold at the first turn, not worth it. Get the last bend, you're elevated and can see a lot of the circuit, or the stand over the far end where you can see them go through the left kink, the long right bend  and towards the chicane. Otherwise GA is pretty good there.

I agree. This is the best spot and it's general admission.

You have to get there REAL early on race day to find a spot though. Last time I was there in 2012 I arrived at 8 in the morning (7 hours before race start) and it was already packed.

is it that bad? mind you, I haven't watched f1 from there yet (full weekend GA tickets for us hungarians are (were?) about 30 €, that is too good of a deal to overlook  ), but saw K-Mag's mega drive from 16th to 2nd in the wet @ 2013 hungarian round of WSR, wasn't so bad, but probably it was because that race saw some overtakes in the first turn. also Kevin didn't get that much on-screen time, so I could only follow his progress by seeing less and less cars in front of him in the first turn. I think in one of the laps he arrived there as 5th, in the next lap he was overtaking for 2nd.

Cyanide: yeah, this pic is from 2013, 7:10 a.m., if I remember right, the gates open at 7. our strategy was more or less:

-arrive with a friend at around 6:50,

-run the best sprint of your life as soon as the gates open with some blankets in your arms,

-arrive at this spot,

-put down the blankets to occupy the spot for your friends,

-wait for your friend who is bringing all your other stuff,

-ask your group of friends who arrive at around noon for some coffee/energy drinks, because you suffered so they don't have to wake up at 4 a.m.

-get 2 L of energy drinks because everyone brings extra size for you

-die of a heart attack

It's not bad, it's just that it's expensive for what you get and you can only see the first bend. So many better views around the circuit for a lot less money
