I seeeeriously doubt someone like Häkkinen called the A1-ring "Mickey Mouse".

I can though, understand that someone would go to extremes and give it negative remarks, compared with the old one.

The term MM-track is not used on tracks with a lay-out such as this one.

Nasty lateral impact by Alonso there, you can see the energy dissipating through the bodywork and the wall

I believe Alonso said it was a 34 G impact. Massive, if true.

what snooze fest this season is turning out to be.

I noticed the tai light flashing sometimes under braking, but not always. When does the tail light flash. Didn't know it did that. Thanks.

I think this track is great eventhough race today was a bit boring, at least up front.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but I believe it is when the ERS unit is harvesting energy...which means the car will be slower than it otherwise would be.. A fuller more technical explanation would probably be appreciated!

Hasnt Brundle covered that a million times already? Energy harvesting indication.

Arrivabene, on Kimi/Alonso's accident:

Speaking after the race, Arrivabene said he was confused as to what caused the crash and admitted he had to take Raikkonen's word as there was little coverage of the clash.

"Honestly I don't think so," he replied when asked if the car was at fault.

"I thought Alonso touched Kimi, but apparently it's not true. Alonso doesn't have any responsibility," he admitted.

"Apparently there's no images on the camera of Alonso so we have to trust Kimi.

"He said the car had wheelspin and that's it. Alonso didn't touch him."

When asked if his Canada spin and his Austrian problems were linked, he added: "We don't think so. This time it was on the straight."

Kimi would have been better lying and saying it was Alonso, might have saved him his job.

I know that Alonso's camera didn't work, but what about the cars behind them? For example the Manors or Button should've caught the accident.

-No good camera angle on the Kimi/Alonso crash (I thought each driver has a T-cam above the helmet area?)

I think it was a gust of wind :p

Perhaps the TV production bandwidth limit had already been reached by the 57 cameras covering the backs of people in the garage and on the pit wall?

It's obvious what happened to Kimi. Someone radioed him to tell him they had no choc ices left and he lost it in shock. :p

In all seriousness though it was a very odd accident.

Did they do anything about the false start? If they had stopped perhaps this mess could have been avoided.

Edit: He did get a drive-through penalty. Too bad it ended the race for several drivers though.

Do they even have cameras?

I know a few years back at least, all cars had a camera shaped and weighted piece, but not all carried cameras. Recalling the Chilton and Bianchi incident at Canada in 2014, there were no on-boards there.

Seems odd these days that they wouldn't have a camera on every car, given the cheapness of the technology and small grid.

It is odd, I know some teams put their camera in a different spot - in the nosecone, on the side of the engine cover or facing backwards from the rollbar.

Bear in mind how the circuit used to be and it does seem like a bit of a let down, but its always been a decent track. I wonder how Gerhard Berger feels about it. He raced in F1 on the original and current versions.

A1 Ring suffers from the legendary statute of its predecessor, just like the Nurburgring. Both modern tracks are pretty good, but they can't compete with the prior legendary race tracks they've replaced.

Haha, that Ben Anderson from Autosport is not a fan of Verstappen is he? Scoring Carlos and Max  both 7 points out of 10. Last time when Max performed like Carlos did this weekend he got 5 points out of 10.

Have you seen that headline about what Maldonado supposedly had said about Max? Think it's indeed fair to say he doesn't like him..

There was a choice though, the drive-through is not automatic. Given that there was some discussion about Ericsson's decision to lift off and give up any advantage he gained it seems relevant to consider that the stewards opted for the lesser of two possible penalties.

Right, the coverage of the accident was not impressive to say the least.

It is quite silly. Sainz has beaten Verstappen jr. in other races on merit, and now Verstappen has beaten Sainz on merit. Furthermore, I have yet to see a race by Carlos that was good as Verstappens Austrian one.

I think they did a spoof article saying Hamilton wins every race forever.

Overall a decent race on one of my favourite circuits-  a bit more satisfying than Canada was.

Well, Spain spings to mind, where IMHO Sainz was better than Verstappen, and He'd better be because that is his hometrack. Same as that Verstappen needs to be better at Spa.

And this is why i dont like Rosberg, slick and always going over the top, maybe it's just me ...

Oh dear.

There is literally nothing Nico could do that would not annoy some people. A bit sad really.

So ORF reports that spectator numbers went down from 225K (95K race) in 2014 to 120K (55K race) in 2015.

The primary reason:  increase in ticket prices.

Way to go, Bernie!  This is pretty much symptomatic of what's happening with all the European races.

As I said in another thread, it was also a bank holiday last year.

However, it is proven that more income is generated by circuits from having lower ticket prices - Silverstone experimented with cheaper tickets this year and sold out in minutes. They will scale it up next year. More people in the gates mean more buying food, beer, programmes, expensive merchandise, etc. I just can't see what circuits have to gain by having empty grandstands.

I'm still shocked I got my 3-day GA ticket for Spa for £80.

Silverstone have promised to go down a different strategy next year, it will be cheaper the earlier you get them because full paying fans are furious they lost out to 44% off. Silverstone sells because it's not just a race, it's an event. You have GP2, you have all the simulators, you have the stage, there's the helicopter experience. Some of the tracks just don't offer a show. And finally having a British driver helps massively, the crowd always goes up when Jenson or Lewis are performing well.
