This is possibly the stupidest thread so far, but what the heck?
A certain pole at every fortnight if you ask me.

In a hospital, the car would have crashed harder in winter testing.

It didn't help them much last season...

Rightly so, but that was with a commodity MHPE PU, not with the works Mercedes execution, helluva difference there.

Great thread, would read again.

I don't understand. They would have customer Mercedes spec this season as well, if they so chose.

He wouldn't have been at McLaren I think

the I don't know, somewhere in midfield answer.

Yep, this. Probably would have stuck it out at Ferrari, therefore already with a win under his belt.

Close to the Williams, I guess...
McLaren had a big gap to Williams last year even if they were using the same engine... so I guess with Mclaren's 2014 knowledge of the Mercedes engine, this year they would have been close to the Williams

What is the title of this thread?
What's a MHPE PU? What's the difference to a Mercedes PU? Doesn't the M in MHPE stand for Mercedes
Do you mean what if McLaren were the Mercedes works team still? It's hard to imagine really :/ Presumably Hamilton would still be there and paired with Alonso, fun.

There was talk last year that McLaren weren't getting as much suppport from Mercedes as the other customer teams because they were leaving to go to Honda. Something to do with how the engine could be used to help the car brake. Last year it seemed that Williams were getting more help from Mercedes perhaps because of Toto's involvement.
So with the best customer Mercedes engine and support, where would the McLaren chassis be this year? I would say a firm top 10, probably in the Ferrari/Williams range of performance. If the engine could run reliably this year I think McLaren would be able to do more set up work and aerodynamic development.

Well, I read some on a motorsport page some weeks ago that the McLaren chassis is on the same level as Ferrari because asspull math (which was obviously not further explained).

Strong points finishes at the most. Don't forget, McLaren hasn't been able to build a good chassis in three years. It's not just down to the power unit, their chassis isn't great as well.
I'd say if McLaren still had the Mercedes engine, they'd be on the same level as last year.

-around where Button would be.

A reliable and competitive PU, would allow much more downforce to be used, and thus their aerodynamic development would have been much more evolved by this time of season, with much more data gathered
I would say a match for Williams and Ferrari...

He did not leave in the wrong time.Alonso only has himself to blame for being in a McLaren rather than in a Ferrari this year. So what ?
He is not the only driver to leave Ferrari at the wrong time; Amon, Ickx, Prost and Irvine come to mind.

Which they stopped developing mid-season - and inexplicably threw the car....... and the championship in the bin. Oh yes........ McLaren have stunk of PU for a while now.
Merc engine this year? Probably farting about in the midfield asking Force India to move over. Sad but true........

You know you've started a shit topic when you start taking the mickey out of it yourself.
Blunter than I would have been but yeah please don't start threads and then undermine them yourself, folks.
