Cliff Byfield has used a Renault [R30?] trans. in the yellow V12 Jag coupe that's been shown on this forum.

           I believe they've been used on some UK V8 kit cars. Don't know how successfully.

A lot more modern than the period though.

A few off roaders used them but they too have lousy ratios. strong enough though it seems.

This is the problem, road car boxes seldom ever have decent close ratio gear sets and fairly short final drives. Plus overdrive fifths are designed for cruising and are often not very strong.

And I suggest a Ferrari, Lambo etc box is probably dearer than a proper race box

A  good guy Porsche box is very expensive too, though a bit more common.
