There is certainly one standard practice of lie - until a deal is officially announced, driver X and team Z always deny that they have signed a deal or been in contact, while in fact they have been in negotiations for a long time.

Agree but in cases like the check for Lotus i really think that applies.

None of these are lies.

More like speculations.

Yep, another one was ...

Wait, what was it. Qadbak? Late in 2009, who allegedly had bought Sauber. That was such a lie Peter Sauber had actually sold the team to "them", but had to then save the team by himself after that.

And of course USF1. One heck of a lie all-around. :D

Also every now and then we have some Russian or Arabic "investors", who claim to sponsor a team or put a driver (Sirotkin a few years ago) somewhere, but the money never appears.

I am still wondering whether some of Zoran Stefanovich claims had some truth or were pure lies, i.e that he had some facilities to run an F1 team!

I'm sure I've heard of instances (mostly from a while ago), about drivers lying about their age, either saying they were older to be old enough to get a licence, or saying they were younger towards the end of their careers so as not to appear as "washed up" in the eyes of teams, sponsors etc.

I remember hearing a wild rumour a few years ago that Mark Webber was actually older than claimed. Lol! :D

Benetton - No, we haven't tampered with the fuel rig and removed safety critical parts for a minor performance boost

Not in F1, but Condor Motorsports went so far as to put in an entry for one Payton Tapp Watkins at the Road America Champcar event in 2004, who had convinced them he had been a Minardi test driver, when his total motor racing experience had been having his picture taken by a show car wearing Nomex.  The Autoracing archives make fun, yet sad, reading...

The Bloomington, CA based team is backed by some big name celebrities and sponsors that will be revealed with the official announcement from the team.  2004 will be a learning year so the team will run Reynards, moving to Lolas starting in 2005.  Watkins recently signed a personal sponsorship deal with American Express and a commercial with Tiger Woods will begin airing soon.

Marc Hynes deserved a lot better.

I remember that. Now that's a proper failure, none of your modern MGU-Thingumabob nonsense, when an engine was an engine, not an acronym for stereos or something to keep your G&T cool.

Ka-BLAM.

I was there! The pistons made indents in the track!

Running an engine back then without piston-rings was always going to be a bit sketchy.

"We let them race"

"I don't care who my teammate is"

"He doesn't have No. 1 in his contract"

"F1 has always been like this" (referring to Formula Conservation)

"My car is bad"

"I had no idea" (FA of Piquet gate)

"There were no TOs" (ALO, MAS, Ferrari at HH 2010)

"I wouldn't like to win like that" (HAM on VET at RBR)

"We are in favor of change in F1" (Mercedes 2014-2015)

"DRS was the only solution we could find"

Alonso knew nothing of Crashgate.

That's supposition, rather than "biggest lie."  For example, we know for a fact that McLaren lied during the Spygate saga, that Hamilton and Dave Ryan lied in Melbourne in 2009 and that the fan on the Brabham was not primarily for cooling, even though it was legal. There's just as much evidence that Alonso didn't know anything about it. We can't know either way for sure.

That Senna's steering column was intact before the crash.

That last year's Japanese GP shouldn't have started earlier because of the Typhoon.

The whole of 2007.

It's ok dude. There's a certain morbid beauty in reading F1's disgruntled fans post. As if we ain't a rare bread overall, we got to complain and whine about it the whole while.

😂 nail-head. I'm sure football fans don't whinge about their sport like us lot. Maybe it's because secretly, we like being the only one we know into F1, and try to keep it that way by making out it's bollocks...
