I know it was never popular but for me it was the one lap time trial. I know it was sometimes unfair due to the weather and track conditions but it was the only way you got to see everyone's lap. I guess have elimination until top 10 and then one lap time trail for the last 10 could be good.... then any weather situation would only demote you to 10th at most.

Those missing the old 1 hr 12 lap format have obviously forgotten watching an empty track for 45mins before a mad dash at the end!

That caused a lot of very unhappy punters who paid to watch qually and got ten minutes of action!

Well, what do we have now? The direction still misses most hotlaps and the FOM graphics are still not able to convey any information whatsoever. I rather have everyone fighting for position. Perhaps they should not scratch Q1 and Q2 times but keep the elimination. Saves us a lot of banker laps from the top teams that are hardly of value.

They got the same amount of TV-time, only noone was watching the bottom half.

That doesn't make a difference when teams try to sell sponsorship. Time on air is time on air.

How hard would it be to have dedicated cameras so that each and everybody's lap is being recorded and shown on a screen with multiple windows? And us being able to select on which drivers we want to zoom in to? Am I living too far ahead in the future again?

Bit too far in the future as current broadcast systems don't have the bandwidth for that.

The only reason for instance that you don't get live in-car cameras from every car is because the reception system only has the bandwidth to handle 9. Every car carries an in-car camera & has done since 2001 but you can't pump all that data through the system. Same is true with other categories, There's none that have live in-car feeds from every car & the limit is always somewhere around 9 because everyone is using more or less the same reception system.

It would be unworkable with trackside cameras.

2005 One lap meets current.

So how you finish in the previous race is your starting order for qualifying in Q1. One lap only. 2nd session is the reverse of those who had gone through one lap again and obviously Q3 one lap blah blah.

Would mix up the grid.

Out of the options I like this one, the current one.

One silly red flag caused Maldonado would cost all the following drivers (on the track) two laps at least from their limited 12-laps quota. Never believe this is a fair system.

I don't think Pastor Maldonado has ever caused a red flag in qualifying.

Sponsors aren't that stupid anymore.
