With great sadness I must inform all our friends in TNF that "Tuboscocca" passed away last Thursday.
If you watch the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix today please think of Michael to share his everlasting enthusiasm for motorsports.

I relied on the depth and breadth of his knowledge about motor racing literature to keep up with what was happening in that field. The warmth of his PM correspondence on these matters will not be forgotten either. I so much regret there will not now be a chance to meet him in person.
Sincere condolences to Michael's close ones.

I only 'knew' him from his interesting and well-researched postings on here.
My condolences to his family and friends.

Like Tim, I found this news absolutely shattering. Michael and I had corresponded occasionally and I've been struggling all day to come up with words which don't sound trite. However, I can think of no more fitting memorial than to append his name to the title of the book thread, to which he was such an erudite, informed, witty and prolific contributor - much in the manner of the late Pete Fenelon. He will be sadly missed.
Godspeed, Michael.

Michael's posts were always ones to look forward to. I never knew him in any way, but just from his posts, he seemed to be knowledgable but with the crucial - and often missing - attribute of wanting to learn more. He also seemed enthusiastic and I will miss his contribution here.
RIP and deepest sympathies to all who loved and knew him.

I'm shocked to hear this. I knew Michael only by his forum posts, but always felt a warm and charming personality shining through.
Just the other day I was thinking about contacting him in the near future, to get to know him a little more maybe...
RIP Michael, I will send a copy of the new Nürburgring 1000km book upwards when it comes out!

This is very sad news.
Well done Richard for adding Michael's name to the book thread, and for the link to the 1952 Ferrari. Apparently 'tuboscocca' translates as tubeshell so, presumably, means semi-monocoque.
Here's a link to a teasing, knowledgeable and enthusiastic letter from Michael to Motor Sport back in 1997:

How very sad. I always enjoyed his contributions to this thread and he will be sorely missed as a TNF contributor. I think it is very appropriate that the thread has been renamed as it reflects the huge amount of time and effort he spent on it with his frequent posts.

I have literally this minute become aware of this tragedy, having been travelling on 26/27 July so I can only add to the comments about our friend, he was generous in praise and always so very nice.
Back in 2012 I was due to meet him at the Monaco Historique but circumstances prevented me from attending, my condolences to family and friends.
