So at Spa all drivers will have to perform a 'manual start'.
Does anyone know what is going to change?
If I'm correct, "in the past" the drivers had two clutch paddles behind the steering wheel. Releasing the first pedal lets the clutch bite in at a point which the engineers in the pits find during the warm up lap, somewhere around the last corner/on their way to the gridslot, when the tyres are up to temperature. Getting that wrong and you have too litte bite (not enough power to the wheels) or too much bite (wheelspin). When the cars reach a certain speed, they release the second clutch paddle, which means full clutch bite. From then on they don't have to worry about this till a pitstop or a spin.
Was this the correct procedure, and if so, what is going to change from Spa onwards?
Will we see more starts like in Hungary, where the polesitter could easily be P4 when they reach the first corner and where the guy from P5 comes cruising past to take 2nd? Cause if that's the case, this could be one of the best rule change in recent years. Or are we gonna see little change and only see Ricciardo do the occasional Webber and fall back on his own?
We know something is changed, but it's hard to find what that is exactly.
