Thanks for posting these Eric.
I'm ashamed to say that it's one of the very few occasions that I didn't attend. Sundays are the only day I can normally get there due to my working a Friday night shift, but when I saw the rain I'm afraid I wussed out ! Rode there in 1978 and 1980 and it holds a lot of memories for me.

It wasn't the best of days weather wise, unlike Saturday but as we'd travelled down from Blackpool for the weekend,I wasn't going to miss it.I think we spent half the day stood in the bandstand trying to keep dry and watching the racing from there.Enjoyed it though. It was my first visit, but I'll definitely try to go again next year.
I'll sort a few more photos out for tomorrow night.

36 years ago I was on the cover of the programme!
The photo was from the year before, when I had a couple of wins there (before I slid off and broke my leg!). It was only a club meeting back then (1978) and the first meeting to be held there since its closure in 1964. Back then it attracted top riders such as Surtees, Hailwood, Shorey, Cooper, etc. and was a British Championship round. The best period for me (later on as a spectator) was when it held rounds of the closely fought Kennings Classic Singles championship (in the eighties or nineties?) when the likes of Bob Heath, Bob Newby, John Cronshaw, Bill Swallow, Dave Pither, etc. used to fling their Manxes and G50's around there like there was no tomorrow! It really was a sight (and sound) to behold !

Barry, even after all these years I remember vividly that first meeting at ABERDARE after a number of years without use and witnessing the carnage in the final race of the day. Mr Chappel ( do you know if he is keeping well, I hope so ) lost the use of his legs in that crash and Colin Bevan along with yourself ended up in Merthyr hospital with broken legs. Some of the other riders involved weren't so badly injured. Next year I will try to get there for the parade laps on a recently acquired Suzuki x7, this will be fast enough for me and with my extra bulk should make even slower.

Hi Guys
Great photographs, I raced at the 1985 meeting on a 250 Spondon Rotax and 350 TZ, I was in practice struggling a little on the TZ learning the course and putting too many gears in, Kenny Irons came past me near the pond on his 350 and I realised he was only using about 4 gears. I managed to quickly hang on and had the experience of being towed round by him. I got a front wheel puncture on the 350 in the final, and not sure what I did on the 250. However I enjoyed the experience, I remember waiting to go out and speaking with Neil Tuxworth who gave some good advice.
Another epic story was when we got to the park it had been raining and my mate was turning the van and caravan around when it got stuck and started to slide backwards, it took us 2 hours to get it up the slight gradient as it nearly plunged down the hill with the van fully loaded. I was worried.

Here are some pictures I took At Aberdare sometime in the eighties:
Neil Tuxworth on the "British Wicks" (a 350 I think?).
Barrie Middleton 33 (outright lap record holder for some years). I can't remember the other rider, but someone did identifiy
him when I posted it a few years ago.
Hi Keith see you next year then!
