You might find that the technical side of any data logger is OK, what sets them apart is the analysis software, which is where you spend most of your time. If you can save the data in some neutral file format you could roll your own analysis suite, or even use Excel.

Collect the data, email it to youself as a CSV file and the overlay on Dashware using the gauges. A great free way to beging to understand the context.
As you move forward. You can spend a lot of time and money.
The best racing software is optimised to make easy comparisons between data sets. This way you can assess any modifications you make.
