ALEX ZANARDI has added three more world titles to his expanding list of achievements, winning the para-cycling road race, time trial and team-relay at the 2015 UCI World Championship in Switzerland last weekend.

To see more go to:

Alex has to be one of  the most talented and driven athletes in the world.  I am ultra impressed and wish to share his achievments with you.

Regards

Zanardi = Icon. He's 48 and competing against guys in their 20s, and still winning. What a story his life is, it's one of those things that people wouldn't believe if it were turned into a movie because it'd seem too improbable. I hope he can win gold in Rio.

I'd also love to see him race a Z4 again in a UCI world champion's rainbow livery. How cool would that look?

If you look up the definition of Alex Zanardi in the dictionary, it simply reads "What's your excuse?"

Absolute hero

I remember a while after his accident there was a BBC disability show interviewing him, he talked about tuning his prosthetic legs so the joints etc worked exactly as he wanted. What I remember most was when he talked about being able to sense the rain falling on his prosthetic foot.

I still love the fact that when he won in the British Paralympics, it was at Brands Hatch of all places! :)

A true super-human, words really aren't enough to describe how awesome he is

One of a kind for sure...

Never forget wishing him luck at Road America a couple weeks before 9/11 and his crash as he walked by with his son on his shoulders...

That Rockingham CART race after his injury and 911 and all that made me aware of how well thought of he was in the paddock. Everyone had some kind of pineapple attached to some part of them. ... .. Every single person. https://twitter.com/...146920628781056

Here's the documentary from 2004, well worth a watch if you have the time:

(Small correction BTW - he could feel sensation on his prosthetic feet, but it wasn't from rain as I said earlier.)

I've been a huge fan of Zanardi since his F-3000 days and this is just phenomenal. He is a great, great guy. Winning an olympic gold at the track where once won in IndyCar (or Champcar, to be precise) is very special.

I have been re watching a lot of CART stuff lately - found the 2002 race, where they show him finishing his laps.

I, just like most people there that day, cried openly watching it.

The man is THE definition of inspiration.

Well done Alex!

Alex goes again in the H5 Road Race at 13.30 UK Time.

I've got no expectation of any coverage whatsoever on C4 so if anyone could provide a link I'd be very grateful (by pm if necessary)

I was a Zanardi fan in his winning years in CART, with Ganassi. I felt really sorry for him when he had the accident. But man, this guy is amazing...what an example!

I just posted this in the Ronnie Peterson Film thread.....

Maybe a biopic about Zanardi would work.....F1 & Indycar career, life-threatening accident, racing post-accident and paralympic gold medal winning athlete

The man is a legend, an inspiration to most of us   :drunk:

Seem to recall that was not the opinion of many on here when he was racing in F1.....

Well, to his credit, he's quite honest about deliberately stopping his car on the racing line after a crash at Enna (F3000, 1991), hoping to have the race stopped and the result revert to the lap before his crash! :p

(Compare that to, let's say... the convoluted explanation a Ferrari driver gave after a crash during qualifying at Monaco in 2006)

The only thing missing is the winning donuts!

The bloke is an inspiration to anyone that knows of him, to come back and race less than 2 years later and be competitive is enough but then to take on the Olympics against many half his age and win, now at two Olympics is very special.

I suspect if he had been a bit more focused at Williams [and them too] that may well have been more special also.

Legend is a term often overused but in this case I think it is richly deserved. To have gone through so much pain, turmoil and near death and to never seemingly moan and always to have a smile on his face is so inspiring. I'm so pleased he's done so well in the Paralympics, he richly deserves it. Here's to even more success in the future whatever challenge he decides to do next. What a hero! :D
