Did the number plate come with the car, or did he get it because it's a little Fireball?

Since I remain completely incapable of posting photographs successfully upon this Forum in the manner once painstakingly taught to me, I hope these links work - in most cases a somewhat unusual record of Goodwood 74...

The forum I frequent with the easiest picture posting procedure is Ferrari Chat. Even a techno-dunce such as I can manage to put a picture in a post over there.

Doug, if management is interested in member feedback I thought the Edwardian race was brilliant. I hope it becomes a fixture at MM or Revival. Lunch in the great hall was a big improvement over last year. Demonstration runs are a bit boring...let the boys have their heads if they decide to "pair up".đŸ˜ƒ. Also, some better weather would be appreciated. All in all a wonderful weekend.

Sincere apologies for the weather then...

9 down in today's Times concise crossword: hater of new gadgets (11).

Sadly, Jack, technophobe fitted better than technodunce, but I definitely think you're on to something there.

Thanks, Doug. I'm sure next year will be even better.

Paul, best of luck with the crosswords. Perhaps ""technodunce" will become a neologism in one of those irritating year-end lists. Do you have any pull with O.E.D.?

You're on fine word-smithing form today - have you bought the OED?

I've never understood why words with the suffix 'phobe' (or 'phobic') are used to describe someone with a hatred of something. A phobia of something doesn't equate to a hatred of same (although, of course, it might lead to it - perhaps irrationally, in keeping with the concept of a phobia…).

The Edwardians' race was wonderfully entertaining; I had to content myself with watching it online, but the camera work, coverage and commentaries were good and I probably saw more of the action that way...

Not yet. I'm reserving shelf space for the forthcoming works of Mr. Nye and Mr. Kenny.

Maybe it is an optical illusion but during ITV 4's coverage of the event last evening I was struck by the difference between the seating position in W196 open wheeler and the streamliner, in the latter the driver seemed to be far lower. Any explanations or theories as to why or indeed how?

I'm honoured to be mentioned in the same sentence as DCN. You've got three volumes of his to look forward to now. I doubt the Straight book will see the light of day before 2019.

Sit lower in Steamliner for better aerodynamics and/or Jochen Mass not as tall as Mika Hakkinen!

I suspect it relates mainly to driver height. The photos below (found on this page) show that Michael Schumacher is a wee bit taller than Nico Rosberg and thus projects further out of the streamliner W196 than Rosberg does out of the open-wheeler:

The important consideration in not the standing height of the driver but the seated height.

In that photo of the two chaps standing it looks to me as if MS and NR have legs of similar length with NR's longer if anything (using the wheel as reference so far as is possible).

And no comments about either of them sitting on Brieftaschen (wallets) please...

Thank you for the tip, but I couldn't find it, although I did locate 2014 and 2015. Could you provide a link?

Thanks again.

Jack
