After we recently had (after the fan survey) lot discussions about if really the best drivers are driving in F1, I would like to know how you would like to have the grid driver-wise. The teams stay like it is planned for 2016 (Mercedes, Ferrari, Williams, Red Bull, McLaren, Lotus, Force India, Toro Rosso, Sauber, Manor, Haas). So we have 22 places available. To make the whole thing realistic you are only allowed (if possible) to choose the drivers who would currently be legitimated to have an super licence for 2016. In the following you have the list (as of today).

Already meet requiments for a super licence
Nico Rosberg
Felipe Massa
Lewis Hamilton
Sebastian Vettel
Daniel Ricciardo
Romain Grosjean
Fernando Alonso
Jenson Button
Pastor Maldonado
Sergio Perez
Nico Hulkenberg
Kimi Raikkonen
Jean-Eric Vergne
Valtteri Bottas
Charles Pic
Mark Webber
Paul di Resta
Esteban Gutierrez
Adrian Sutil
Kamui Kobayashi
Max Chilton
Daniil Kvyat
Marcus Ericsson
Kevin Magnussen
Giedo van der Garde
Max Verstappen
Carlos Sainz
Felipe Nasr
Roberto Merhi
Will Stevens
Andre Lotterer
Marcel Fässler
Allan McNish
Benoit Treluyer
Tom Kristensen
Loic Duval
Will Power
Scott Dixon
Stoffel Vandoorne
Raffaelle Marciello
Helio Castroneves
Sam Bird
Anthony Davidson
Sebastien Buemi
Alex Lynn
Jolyon Palmer
Fabio Leimer
Esteban Ocon
Nelson Piquet jnr.

Drivers who have no super licence but would get it as of today
Rio Harynato
Pierre Gasly
Antonio Giovinazzi
Felix Rosenqvist
Juan Pablo Montoya
Marvin Kirchhofer
Oliver Rowland
Joao Paulo Oliviera
Kazuki Nakajima
Yvan Muller

Mercedes: Merhi/Chilton - can one of them become WDC in the Mercedes rocketship? Or is the driver still worth something? The only way to keep the Championship alive for more than 1 team

Ferrari: Vettel/Hamilton - for lots of forums discussions and (hopefully) the fight for the championship

Red Bull: Ricciardo/Alonso - how good is Ricciardo really? Can he beat Alonso? Both should fight for podiums

Williams: Hülkenberg/Button - Hulk has earned this drive and we could see how good he really is and Button would be back where he started

McLaren: Vandoorne/Räikkönen - Vandoorne seems to be the next big, Räikkönen once was and is back where he belongs to

Force India: Perez/Lotterer - Perez can stay, Lotterer because Force India needs another German driver after Sutil and Hülkenberg

Lotus: Montoya/Verstappen - Battle of the generations

Toro Rosso: Kvyat/Rosberg - For the first time in history RedBull relegates a driver BACK to Toro Rosso, and for the first time in history they actually hire a "proven" driver to really judge the young one

Sauber: van der Garde - van der Garde's father in law buys Sauber and fires Kaltenborn, second car is given to the best paying driver every race weekend (that's how vdG will actually win the intra team battle)

Manor: Maldonado/Kobayashi - Some entertainment in the last rows

Haas: Vergne/Nasr - Ferrari's test team

Mercedes: Hamilton/Chilton - To see what the difference really is between a top class driver and an also ran. Can Max still score podiums in the Merc rocket-ship?

Ferrari: Vettel/Grosjean - To see how good Grosjean actually is as he's been hard to judge the last couple of seasons.

Red Bull: Ricciardo/Verstappen - Is Verstappen really that good or are both he and Sainz flattered by a very good car?

Williams: Bottas/Hulkenberg - To see which out of these two who many perceive to be worthy of a top drive is best.

McLaren: Button/Vandoorne - Known quantity vs prodigy

Force India: Palmer/Nasr - GP2 Grudge match

Lotus: Maldonado/Perez - Team Carbon Fibre

Sauber: Van Der Garde/Ericsson - Team eBay

Manor: Alonso/Sainz - Alonso buys them out to run his own team after a fall-out with Ron Dennis.

Haas: Montoya/Dixon - Couldn't not bring Monty back plus a successful indycar driver.

Yes I know I've missed plenty of big names off but it's a bit of Friday afternoon fun!

Edit:

Toro Rosso: Raikkonen/Massa - A change in philosophy sees them only employing drivers over the age of 33

Mercedes: Ricciardo/Vettel - Rematch we deserve.

Ferrari: Hamilton/Hulkenberg - Hamilton to provide entertainment and Hülkenberg for being very consistent.

Red Bull: Vergne/Verstappen - Vergne to prove himself in a top car, and Verstappen for being really great.

Williams: Grosjean/Bottas  - The battle everyone wants.

McLaren: Alonso/Jenson - In a well developed, front runner car.

Force India: Nasr/Kvyat - Both deserve to stay in F1.

Lotus: Massa/Rosberg - Lotus needs two reliable drivers to score points.

Toro Rosso: Sainz Jr/Ocon - To prove they are worthy for F1.

Sauber: Perez/Rossi - Sauber needs someone who can run great races and score big points. Rossi is promising.

Manor: Vandoorne/Magnussen - Would be a great battle.

Haas: Raikkönen/Stevens - Raikkonen would provide great input with his experience, and Stevens is solid.

There are a few more who could get the super licence if they improve a bit in the championship (eg Rossi, Stoneman), but not that many.

Some experience alongside youngsters. Raikkonen back at Lotus. Perez and Kobayashi back at Sauber. No pay drivers. I just don't see how this grid would produce a boring race...

Instead of a total dream config, I would be pretty happy if the following would happen:

- Kimi retires. Hulkenberg takes his seat.

- Magnussen takes Hulkenbergs seat at Force India

- Button retires. Vandoorne takes his seat.

- Mercedes, Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Williams keep the same driver lineups.

- Maldonado gets dropped. Palmer takes his seat.

- Haas to appoint Guttierez and Vergne

- Manor to drop one of their current drivers for Ocon.

Mercedes : Vettel - Hamilton
Ferrari : Hulkenberg - Rosberg
Williams : Alonso - Ricciardo
Red Bull : Botas - Verstappen
McLarren : Ocon - Vandoorne
Force India : Perez - Sainz
Lotus : Grosjean - Massa
Torro Rosso : Frijns - Nasr
Sauber :  Kvyat - Palmer
Haas : Button - Vergne
Manor : Magnussen - Stevens

Vettel - Hamilton is to decide who we could call a true legend.

All others are to see how they will hold up to the other drivers and to end the discussions on how good they actually are, and some rookie pairings are there to see who's the best between them.

Who cares, it's a dream.

We should expand for all time fantasies.

Like 1985 with drivers from all eras. ;)

Senna and Hakkinen at McLaren

Vettel and Schumacher at Ferrari

Raikkonen and Hunt at Benetton

Alonso and Prost at Renault

Keke R and D Hill at Williams

Piquet and Lauda at Brabham

Hamilton and Mansell at Lotus

and then find room for Fangio, Clark, Stewart, Fittipaldi, etc.

some things stay the same
Merc: Rosberg - Hamilton
Ferrari: Vettel - Räikkönen

Lotus: Maldonado - Grosjean
Sauber: Ericsson - Nasr

somewhere there are small changes
Williams: Bottas - Yelloly
Force India: Perez - Bird
Toro Rosso:  Sainz - Marciello
Manor: Stevens - Ocon

some moves are bigger
McLaren: Magnussen - van der Garde
Haas: Alonso - Rossi

Why is Verstappen returning to karting anywhere near the ideal world?

Was reading an article last night about a professional jury voting over the best kart driver amongst current F1 drivers. They voted Verstappen would be the very best.

I only looked for driver combinations with which we got the best possible idea on how good different drivers actually are, but put Vettel - Hamilton in the WDC capable winning car to see who's entitled to be called the best right now...I didn't care that much for Alonso to become WDC again, I just want to know how Ricciardo would do against him, and the same goes for Button.

Imaginary F1 Renault, Frijns, Da Costa

Williams - Frijns (will get his SL if requested) vs Lynn

Torro Rosso : Frijns - Nasr

Found a comprehensive breakdown of all drivers current points and what they need to do.  Frijns would need nothing more than a miracle to get a license for next year, as he's currently 5 points short of 40 and even then those points will be wiped out at the end of the year.

Mercedes: Hamilton/Alonso. Would love to see them have a go at each other in equal machinery one more time.

Ferrari: Vettel/Raikkonen. I want Raikkonen to stay in a top team, let him stay at Ferrari and give Vettel a harder time now.

Williams: Massa/Bottas. Just a nice duo to have in a nice team like Williams.

Red Bull: Ricciardo/Vergne. As it should have been for this season. Vergne deserves another shot, he's certainly no worse than Ricciardo and stronger than Kvyat.

Force India: Hulkenberg/Perez. Same as the Williams duo. Both are solid drivers, good for a solid midfield team.

Lotus: Grosjean/Kvyat. Grosjean is good, Kvyat can bring Lotus some funding with a Russian sponsor or something.

Toro Rosso: Verstappen/Sainz. Unfinished business, let's see another season with these two paired together.

Sauber: Nasr/Ocon. Ocon seems to be another great talent, let's put him in the Sauber and face off against Nasr. At least that means Ericsson is gone.

McLaren: Rosberg/Button. Button can have another season, and Rosberg needs a seat, give him the McLaren one.

Manor: Magnussen/Vandoorne. McLaren's two proteges face off against each other. The winner will replace Button for 2017.

Haas: Lynn/Gasly. Both are promising talents, they can start at the new Haas team.

Sure why not,

Mercedes- Hamilton v. Vettel in the Battle to Shut up the Fanboys

Ferrari- Grosjean and Hulkenberg or Ricciardo (I think Grosjean and Hulk deserve a top seat and I would love to see Ricciardo at Ferrari some day)

Red Bull- Ricciardo and Alonso (would be a great match up to watch)

Williams- JPM (Miss him in F1 and he's been great in Indycar recently) and Raikkonen (They'd have a great time together)

Toro Rosso- Verstappen and Sainz (it's been fun, lets keep it going)

Lotus- Lotterer and Duval (Lotterer because I think he is one of the best drivers in the world and Duval because it'd be fun to watch two le mans winners in F1)

McLaren- Button and Rosberg (Button because he needs a good place to retire and Rosberg because he'll need any place to race)

Manor- Vandoorne and Magnussen (Winner gets Button's seat)

Sauber- VDG, Sutil, Piquet, Vergne, Nasr, Ericson, Malanado, Perez, Koybashi, Pic, and Chilton (best lawyer wins)

Haas- Rossi and Webber (because why not?)

This is quite a tough one I must admit, the only things I'm certain of are that I'd have Montoya in there somewhere because basically he's an attacking driver who isn't just a PR robot, he actually speaks his mind, and that I won't pick any drivers who've retired from racing, though if they've switched to another form of motorsport they will be considered for inclusion, they just have to be a current racer (as we don't really know how good they'd be now). So anyway, my 'attempt' at coming up with a grid:

Mercedes: Alonso/Vettel

Ferrari: Hamilton/Montoya

Williams: Rosberg/Raikkonen

Red Bull: Ricciardo/Bottas

Toro Rosso: Massa/Grosjean

Lotus: Button/Hulkenberg

Force India: Webber/Verstappen

McLaren: Vandoorne/Castroneves

Sauber: Dixon/Kvyat

Manor: Palmer/Magnussen

Haas: Power/Sainz
