I was wondering which team was trying to sign him, but apparently it's for paternity suits.

I think the judge must've seen that picture of Ruben Vazquez and thought 'dig him up!'

Begs the question...supposing he was cremated and his ashes scattered over the race tracks he reigned supreme!

The alleged son looks more like Curt Jurgens than Fangio.

Then Niki's ex-wife must be the mother?

Sad times, but I think I understand the reason why.

Absolutely disgusting
Totally agree mate !
The guys says he doesn't want money, just the Fangio name.
Change your name ffs if that's all it's about !
There's absolutely no way he's not after some sort of financial reward out of this.

Why the disgust?..Its the only way to resolve the issue at hand...I suspect though $$$$ at stake otherwise why bother!

Why the disgust?
Dead bodies are icky.
Posted 09 August 2015 - 11:36
Guys, wouldn't you like to know who your father was? Isn't only fair they got some closure?
Posted 09 August 2015 - 11:55
Dead bodies are icky.
I take it you are not a coroner nor a mortician nor a doctor then!

Dead bodies are icky.
After 20 years in a mausoleum, I think it'll be crispy more than icky.
Dad's a doc, Mum was a nurse so gallows humour was de rigeur in our house.
Edit: Pun unintentional.

No to the former two, and even less so for a doctor because living bodies are even ickier.

I am all for letting the dead lie in peace. What we don't know though is if there is a greater motivation such as an ill grandchild whose genetics are uncommon enough to want to narrow the continental searchs for donors or viable treatments.

If these are Fangio's natural sons, then it doesn't really reflect well on him that he didn't acknowledge them while he had the chance.

Yes, because only money matters in life. For example knowing who your father was is completely unimportant.
Posted 09 August 2015 - 16:57
Grow up, it's not about just having literally the same name, it's about being recognized as being entitled to the same name, having some proof of who his father is one way or the other, some closure.Totally agree mate !

Is one of the Sons the mystery chap who Jackie Stewart let into the tomb after the family had gone, at Fangio's funeral? It was mentioned in Jackie's 'name dropping excercise' Autobiography...

It's unfortunate that this has to happen after he's been dead for 20 years. I wonder about the sequence of events... Did the "sons" have any idea during Fangio's lifetime? Why wouldn't they have sued for a paternity test while he was alive? That would have been as simple as a cheek swab rather than exhuming a corpse. Did the supposed mom not sign an affidavit until right before she passed away or something? That seems odd. Maybe Fangio was paying her off while alive? Conspiracy!

At times there will also have been political aspects, when it was better not to raise such things in public. Fangio was a favourite of Peron and at various times after Peron's fall - despite his fame - he was seen by some Argentinian governments as a bit of an embarrassment. His passport was even confiscated in early 1956.
Much to Enzo Ferrari’s consternation Juan Fangio almost didn’t arrive at Sebring that year. Under the Presidency of Juan Peron of Argentina Juan Fangio was allowed, as a national hero of Argentina, to import European racing cars duty-free. When Peron left office in September of 1955 the incoming government insisted that Fangio pay back all import duties for those years he was exempted by Peron. The Argentine government confiscated Fangio’s passport until that bill was paid. Arrangements were eventually made and Fangio was able to fly to Florida for the race.
