I came across this at a local car show today. I can't remember ever seeing one on the track - I suppose they did actually race? I searched for 'Formula 4' and 'Johnny Walker' on this forum but came up with nothing. A couple of photos by the car showed it in a very dilapidated state, with orange bodywork.

There are some existing threads on Formula 4:

Formula 4

Formula 4?

Vixen VB4?

Most of the photos are as usual no longer visible, but there is another JW4 photo in the Vixen thread:

The car below is actually a JW4/2 Costin Walker Formula 4. The cars original body work vanished in the 90's and jedi body work fitted in its place it has many owners over the years being very successful in the ASWMC and the irish hillclimb championship. It has had several different engines from Yams, Honda currently a Suzuki and originally a villers 250cc.
I am looking for contact details for a Mr Rod Pickup from up north as he has been mentioned as a holder of a Johnny Walker Register. If anyone has any info it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Tim, I was pretty sure you'd find something! I just repeated my search and got nothing again...

I used to have an original sales leaflet for the JW4 but annoyingly it seems to have disappeared

This current search engine is a strange and uncooperative beast, Geoff. I got there by using the Advanced Search option (click on the little gearwheel to the right of the search box). I entered 'Walker JW4' into the relevant box, selected 'Nostalgia Forum' from the list, and ended up with a page of threads containing JW4 info. However, for some reason, if I try posting the link to that page into this thread, the link then refuses to work, saying that the search terms used are invalid. :stoned:

Thanks to Geoff for pointing me in the direction of this thread, I'm pleased to read that my JW4 has generated some interest and discussion on this forum.

Formula IV cars did indeed race in the UK, there were various demonstration events in 1965 but the first official race took place at Brands Hatch on 15th May 1966 which was dominated by the Italian Techno teams who lapped the circuit with a fastest lap of 61.6 seconds (72.47mph). Sadly the series was short-lived and it demise came soon after Johnny Walker who was also the series organiser chose to retire from racing and sold both the JW4 and also the Frank Costin designed Costin Walker projects in November 1969 to focus attention back on his bearing and machine tool business.

The show at the weekend was the first time i have displayed my Johnny Walker since I bought it as a collection of bits 2 years ago in a rather sorry looking state and even longer since it was crashed into a farmers pond and stripped down for rebuild in 1984. There's still much to do before she will be running again.

h4887 if you are local to the village you would be more than welcome to come for a closer look.

Ecurie Ecosse made 2 Ecosse Imp F4 cars which raced mainly at Ingliston.  Both still exist and I know Vernon Willimason has one.
