Hamilton has only driven the best cars.

Vettel can only win from the front row.

Button is the mixed conditions master.

Funny that. For me it's people saying that if Hulkenberg was good enough he would already have been given the oppurtunity.

Yeah, because life is fair like that.

You're missing the point.

Who are we to judge his ability when people in the paddock have access to much more information than us?

Top seats are very limited and contracts have to be honoured but if he was better than a Raikkonen or a Rosberg he should be in one of those seats.

... in 3 decades I can't recall a driver who sported fans more irritating than those of Verstappen Jnr. It's irrational, but it just puts me off him, almost guilt by association.

Yes, they're irritating - also because they're not as disarmingly zany and laughable as the JV fans (both of them) of yesteryear.

Not a 'fantrum' as such, but a prevailing attitude here that is definitely a pet peeve. I guess to stay on topic I'd word it like this: 'F1 is the only form of motorsport I watch.' Ah. So you're not a racing fan, you're just an F1 fan. Gotcha.

Oh, and random two cents: I'm actually a Max Verstappen fan. Didn't see that one coming, didja? I'm outta the closet now!

My favourite FFord driver would have been a triple world champion if it wasn't for Bernie starving the peasants.

The problem with the Ferrari (and kimi) is the pull rod front suspension.

You just could have said there's actually just one...

...(silently weeping for all the panzies who have subdued themselves to the forum bullies who have taken control over the forums with their cynical views on things)...

The countless excuses when the driver they go for is beaten are usually the most hilarious.

When their driver beats another driver, thats due to genuine skill, when their driver is beaten its all due to outside circumstances.

I will say exactly the same about people on these boards who refer to 'Verstappen fans are annoying'!

Generazing is so tiring. There are problaby about three of four members of this board who annoy you (and me as well), the other frequent posters/mv fans are not that bad at all.

That the current racing is ****.

Granted, this year is not great as the engineers have well and truly had their wicked way with the front wings.

But I remember recently when they showed the British GP where the mad priest legged it down the hanger straight. At the time it was called the most exciting GP ever. By recent standards - it was pretty average.

Oh, I agree it's not all of them. That's why I avoided generalisation and specified that it was those Verstappen fans who moan about those who don't fully support their favourite driver that I find irritating.

This thread has no chance of ending in disaster.

But to contribute

"Hamilton/Alonso/Vettel/Schumacher/Senna/etc. is the greatest driver to ever grace his presence of the face of the planet"

"Reverse grids because there isn't enough overtaking"

"There isn't enough overtaking"

"Why is F1 trying to be green"

"Spa 2008"

"These turbo engines are ruining F1"

"Let's go back to the glory days"

I should stop...

I mainly agree. But Spa 2008? never read of this here...

Like wise, about the many more people on the internet who seem to be posting over and over again about Verstappen only just being some marketing gimmick instead of a great talent, and who leave no opportunity go by in trying to let people know he's nothing special...so tell me, which ones are more numerous, and why is the one side more annoying than the other ?

Why does that annoy you?

I can't speak for Afterburner, but one of the things that personally annoys me about some F1 fans is the snobbish views they have to any forms of racing that isn't F1.

How often do we hear that NASCAR is 'just driving around in circles'? Or IndyCar is full of washed up F1 rejects? Or the dreaded 'F1 drivers are the best drivers in the world' statement.

You don't have to like or watch every form of racing, but to belittle the talent of the guys involved just because they're 'not in F1' (particularly at a time when it's very obvious that the best guys don't always end up in F1) I find rather pathetic, and very annoying.

Some of the recurring terms and sentences used during "fantrums" get a chuckle out of me. Such as........

- "********"

- "And to you sir"

- "Yeah, I went there"

- "Max Verstappen has had Girlfriends" (okay that one was only used once, but it was a classic)

- Any insult issued towards me by the Lewis Hamilton fanclub (face it guys, you aren't funny, especially RubalSherr)

None of what you said there has ever been any different, especially the "particularly at a time when it's very obvious that the best guys don't always end up in F1" quote.  That's not new, and in some ways is less of an issue now than in the past, and a bit part of the 'fantrum' that runs with the assumption everything is wrong with F1 because the engines are too quiet or a red Bull isn't winning.

Way back in the late 90's when CART had Montoya, Franchitti, de Ferran and Castroneves pretty near their peak I doubt there was an F1 driver on the grid you swap them out for, apart from Schumacher (possibly Hakkinen).

Perhaps that too is a fantrum of its own. This argument that anyone who has anything critical to say about F1 these days is obviously a bitter Red Bull fan who just doesn't like Mercedes. :p

I didn't say it was new. But with the fewest cars on the grid for a long time, and with very limited opportunities for youngsters, you either have to come from an extremely wealthy background, have your career bankrolled by an energy drinks company, have a famous surname, or have something in the way of novelty value to have a chance of winding up in F1. Or a combination of all those things. Of course some of the best guys aren't going to be in F1 when that's the situation. F1 is unattainable and unachievable for 99% of the world's aspiring F1 drivers, even the most talented ones. It's not a new problem, but it's probably the worst it has been due to a combination of few cars on the grid (and most of them only ever going to accept pay drivers, due to their precarious financial state) and the huge amounts of money involved.

This has probably gone beyond 'fantrum' to rant, but hey-ho.

1: The invention of the 'word' "fantrums". You can't make one word by sticking one and a half together!

2: The V6 engines are/sound rubbish and are ruining F1.

3: DRS is artificial and ruining F1.

Yes you can.

You beat me to the "and you, sir" comment! I've read that a few times and it reminds me of pistols at dawn. Very 1895 or there abouts, always makes me laugh.

I've noticed that quite a few F1 fans do love to use big long words, bits of Latin occasionally, the "strawman" argument ad nauseum (see what I did there?), oh, and of course the fact that almost everyone is an expert at everything.

Fans that say "bring back v12 engines, no electronic gizmos, manual gearboxes etc", "things were so much better in the [insert decade here]".

That's about it, really.

Oh, and anything to do with showing support for Nico Rosberg. In the dictionary, next to the word smug is a picture of him. Can't stand him!

Oh, and people who reply to my last comment with "do you know him personally?" type statements. Although I wait with anticipation for the day someone replies with "Yes...."

And that really is it.

In three decades you can't recall a driver who... wait a minute. In those thirty years you somehow forgot the fans of Schumacher and, as sublime counterforce, an anti-fan of him, called Frans?

BTW: I agree with some posters that this thread is or should not be about opinions or statements you disagree with or that irk you. A 'tantrum' is a hissy-fit, 'an emotional outbreak, usually associated with children.'

A fantrum should, IMHO, is a childish reaction to the fact that reality is as it is, not as it should be.

So... on second thought, perhaps you are right about Max jr. fans.

I mainly agree. But Spa 2008? never read of this here...

It pops up every now and again from Hamilton fans that are still bitter about his time penalty resulting in him not being awarded the win.

It came back up last year when everyone was concerned that Hamilton could lose the championship to Rosberg because of double points; even though Hamilton had more wins than Rosberg over the season. The 2008 season was used to show that Massa had more wins in the season than Hamilton but Massa still lost the championship. To which some replied something along the lines of Spa 2008 doesn't count as a win for Massa.

That was one of the most dramatic and exciting races I'd ever seen. I was standing up in my living room, screaming at the TV, going through ups(YEEEESSSS!) and downs(NOOOOOOOOOO!!) as Lewis and Kimi battled it out. I'm a diehard Ferrari fan as most here know. But ya know what? I think that post-race penalty sucked. Technically, I cant argue with it. But it's not a call I would have ever made in a million years. It's one of those situations where you just look past a minor technical digression and appreciate a fantastic battle. I mean, both drivers technically went way off-track at times, probably not deliberately, but they did do it by a huge margin and gained advantage from it in several corners. I would have let that go, as well. They were fighting. In the rain. At Spa. On dry tires. For the win.

I gained very little joy from Massa being given that win.

Difference of be.beeing not enthusiastic/given very small critizism or to get a whole bunch of critizism because I didnt find their driver perfect (e.g. once I mentioned in the Lewis vs. Nico thread that Hamilton is probably not a hard worker, because he doesnt need to)

No driver is perfect of course, but we have a saying in The Netherlands, "High trees will catch a lot wind."

I personally think all F1 drivers need to work hard, even the most talented ones. Once they let down just a tiny bit, the slightly talented ones are too good to not overtake them immediately.

"Any more races like that and I'm done with F1"

"I'm so close to giving up on this"

I see nothing wrong with thinking about stopping watching F1, but posting about it on here makes it obvious you'll be watching the next race, and the next...

Love the word fantrums  to the OP on that.

"Nico Hulkenberg should be in a top team." - I've tried to logically argue that he hasn't done anything remarkable (http://forums.autosp...-6#entry6994796) but get told, essentially, results don't matter?

"Vettel only won because of Newey/Pirelli etc." - He won because he's a great driver who did the best job with what he had.

"The FIA is biased towards Ferrari." - Nonsense.

"Balleste was French and Prost was French therefore they helped each other out against Senna." - Utter nonsense.
