I like the idea of the VSC, but I miss the extra spice added with the bunched up field when the race has gone into transport mode.

We'we had all threads before. Opinions changes though and now we have had some VSC's both in F1 and GP2. Theory vs practice. A "good idea" vs "it sounded like a good idea at the time"

Prefer it, too many times the SC has been introduced when it wasn't needed to artifically close the field and undo the fine work done by the clear race leader.

It's better than the alternative, but you can see that the implementation isn't flawless.

I think it is a bit safer than just relying on the physical safety car. More could be done in this area, though.

I need an option 'Safety cars are not needed'.

I'd much much rather have this than taking 5 extra laps for the field to catch up and the lapped cars to unlap themselves and whatever else; and you don't turn the race into a mock lottery. And you avoid the risk of people dying whilst fetching cars. I don't see the downside really.

Well from what I've seen in GP2 and sports car racing, it will disadvantage people who pit under green vs yellow flag conditions, so the "lottery" part isn't going away.

I would like the real SC more if it would not stay out so long if it's not necessary.

Does the job (enabling marshals/vehicles to move out from behind the barriers in a much safer environment than just yellow flags) without the multi-lap faffing around associated with a full-blown SC, so I'm happy with it.

I think it worked really well today. It neutralised the race quickly and enabled Dan's car to be retrieved safely and as soon as the track was clear we got back to racing with the minimum of delay and fuss. It has its place for when an actual SC that bunches the field is not needed.

We would have lost 2 laps bunching up the field, 2 laps of idle running and 3 laps of backmarkers unlapping themselves if we had a regular SC with Ricciardo. So yes, I'm pleased with the VSC.

missing an option, "no, pit limiter in the accident's marshalling sector would be better"

Bunching up the field should only be done if the marshals need a minute or two of uninterrupted work on the track.

The VSC is a good step, but I'd prefer it if F1 tries to adopt the WEC slow zones. There was no need for Hamilton and Rosberg to dance around the track at Pouhon when Ricciardo's Red Bull was stranded at the start/finish straight.

Lets remind everyone that the SC is a safety feature not a gimmick to artificially bunch the field. The SC should only be used when the field needs to be done for recovery work to be done safely.

Also bare in mind most cases of VSC being used would not have had an SC if the VSC did not exist. For Riccardo's car, I really dont think they would have thrown an SC because it was easily recovered and fundamentally impacting the race for such a small recovery job would have been hard to justify. However there would still be marshalls in danger whilst it was being recovered. Therefore a lap under VSC was exactly what was needed.
