Guy Ligier was many things but he was passionate about the sport. His legacy to the sport though his iconic team is secure, but of course he wasn't a complete slouch as a driver either.

RIP to a motor racing legend.

Rugged - very French - Guy Ligier has passed away aged 85.  Not a man I ever got to know personally, but a man of considerable stature within our sport. RIP

As I was opening this thread my thoughts were of his enthusiasm...

He was able to overcome the lows and live wit the highs of his time in Formula 1, lived through the criticism of his humble racing beginnings and I perceived at the time there was some kind of expectation that his Rugby background didn't really go down all that well.

Another vital connection with the past gone.

He never forgot his friend Jo Schlesser.

Sad to hear the passing of Guy Ligier. I was always impressed that he remembered his racing friend Jo Schlesser with the model designations JS. A talented businessman also.

One of my all time favourite F1 cars...

F1 history would be somehow poorer without such character as Guy Ligier.

That's a great shame - he's a man of whom very little has been written (to my knowledge) in English. Always thought his Cooper-Maserati looked great in French Blue during '66 and liked the 'JS' prefix to his cars' numerical designations.

RIP

Indeed - when I first read the origin of the "JS" nomenclature, I realised that M. Ligier was, just as many rugby players of the era, a gentleman.  Repose en paix.

My favourite is that outrageous JS 5, with the airbox to end all airboxes, a wonderful piece of design.
