Verizon Indycar Series Round 16 of 16: The GoPro Grand Prix at Sears Double Points Raceway
Much too soon, the Indycars fire up again for the weekend that will decide the 2015 championship. We’ve reached the end of season of extraordinary excitement, farce, confusion, unpredictability and excellence – and all that’s left to do is hand the heavy metal thing to the most deserving out of Juan Montoya, Graham Rahal, Scott Dixon, Will Power, Helio Castroneves and Josef Newgarden.
Montoya has a 34-point lead over Rahal in second, and the final three are over 60 points back. Needless to say, all six of those can conceivably win at Sonoma, and judging by the mathematics I’ve written on my arm, only Newgarden and Castroneves can be considered true longshots. Even though we’re at Sonoma – the track that follows like a tedious argument of insidious intent – the points table bewilderment will make this an unmissable event. Even if you wish it wasn’t.

This is a mournful post for a mournful day. None of us needs to be prompted to remember Justin Wilson’s tenacity, class and good humour, and the impression on the record books he still had time to make. (Although if we're being honest winning two races for Dale Coyne puts his name near the top of my personal record book.) Without risking any hyperbole at all, it's plain to see that he was universally liked, and every member here was a fan.
By way of somewhat goofy tribute, here’s the 2012 Texas thread, coming in at a trimmed-out 299 posts. And by way of repeating links shared by Jp and SophieB elsewhere, you can send some money on the way to his children’s fund here.
