Sat here (in my HiViz jacket, just in case) in the workshop waiting to listen to the classic TT this wet Bank Holiday Monday and WHAT - surprise, surprise so called modern technology goes tits up.
It appears that the the ONLY communication system has failed and the pigeons were eaten some years back so there might not be any racing perhaps at all this week.
Seems there is no backup system (mobile phones I thought could be networked).
Unlike my day (when the main concern seemed to be the race), it seems that the main concern is 'elf and safety' and as normal it's probably done on the cheap. If it's that important spend a few more quid on it rather than the crap that most money is spent on these days or have a backup system.
Pathetic.
Just had an update that the technicians have taken the console back to the workshop.
Tynwald sanctioned a £4 million upgrade to the old system rather than replace it.
Apparently the 'Tetra' system is the Islands emergency and Home Defence communication system so expect to see Viking longboats hoving into sight at any second.
Still this breakdown and the rain means the TZ has had a polish.
Glad to the the LC250 boys got a race at Slipperystone yesterday, must have been a long old lap on a 250LC in the wet.
