Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone know the colour of the nose of this car - is it grey....

...or is it the same slate/purple as on John's car in this image?

Here too you can clearly see the nose is painted a different colour to the rest of the car:

THANKS and have a great day!

Matthew

Matthew, the colour photos I have found on the net, of Cannon's car at the Bridgehampton race in May, and the Laguna Can-Am later in the year, do show differences. at the bridge the nose of the car looks to be the a uniform shade of green, the front spoiler is body colour, and has two supports. at the Laguna race, the nose of the car looks all green, but clearly there have been changes, the McLaren Emblem is missing, the front lights at the lower corners are blanked out, and the spoiler looks to be grey, and has a different shape. remember, that these cars changed race to race, and if there was damage, things would be quickly cobbled together.I cannot post here, but there are photos on the racing sports cars site. I also think that the car on the trailer, in your second link, is the Vinegaroon" Genie MK. 10, and the other photos are of the McLaren-Elva.

Hey Mike! Yes I know the images you are referring to and have collated them. You are right re the Vinegaraoon too, it's the best image that I've found so far of the green colour that I believe also featured on the McLaren M1B as well. I am creating a 1/43 model of the Laguna Seca car and have a good side view of the right hand side of the car but still need to confirm the dark, greyish, colour on the nose + splitter and the other (left) hand side of the car to see if it featured a 'scoop' or not. I suspect it did. Thanks again!

If you go to the following link, search for Can-Am Laguna Seca:

Hi Vince! Thanks! The Flickr link is great and the detail shot on Revs library is very useful especially as it reveals more engine detail that is not standard I think (oil tank?). it's funny how I had been searching on both sites already but never came up with these specific results and images so thank you very much indeed!

Matthew, there is this   http://www.carnut.co...mags/sg6606.jpg   mind fifty three years on I don't know how well the colour is represented. I have two copies of the same issue, and both have faded differently. you say you are doing the Laguna car, would that be from the Can-Am race '66 ? hope this is of some help.

Thanks Mike!

I think I can match the green now / or interpret it close enough.

It's just that his later McLaren M1B had a nose, and lip on it, that appear to be painted a slate / purply grey.

It's finding out if it WAS in fact purple or not, that is the big challenge.

The reason I think it could be purple, is that on the Vinegaroon car, a purply grey did feature at one point and it's probably Nickey's purple colour:

Does that make sense?

Matthew, I see what you mean now by the purple/slate grey, I didn't really notice on the McLaren till you posted those last photos, I agree on the idea that it could be the colour for "Nickey" Chevrolet. being Canadian, and a admirer of John Cannon, I look forward to seeing the finished product, if you post it on the forum !
