It is said that, in London, a group of creditors is set to present new claims at the High Court on Friday, which could mean a return to the F1 paddock for bailiffs.

Another rumour is that key components, supplied by disgruntled third parties, are missing at Monza, meaning that Lotus is targeting simply attending the event rather than properly racing, as it waits for Renault's buyout decision.

So with not all parts it seems lotus are here for contractual reasons and are infact just hoping some will buy the team.

Sad times for F1

And with competitive laptimes as well, so I'm pretty sure all parts are there.

Didn't Arrows do that in France years ago. Set some fast times to get noticed, but backed off in qualifying so they could miss the race.

I don't think they set fast times, I think the purpose was that they did not qualify.

They put a lot of miles on for being a start and park.  There was a bit from Buxton and the three amigos on the US feed today about the situation.  They were saying they had enough to compete but couldn't fund any development for new parts.

Well, why did Lotus spend more money than they actually have in the first place.

You do realize that most teams do this?

Not Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull. :)  They have a "bottomless money pit" with ample cash reserves available whenever required. :)  It's no coincidence they are the best.   ;)

Sure, damage to both cars had nothing to do with it.

I'd have thought you would have given up with this, you're just embarrassing yourself and wasting everybody else's time

Grosjean - broken suspension
Maldonado- broken floor
Both incidents clearly visible.

At least the bailiffs might leave them alone, who wants two broken F1 cars?

It was the third time this year that both Lotus drivers were forced to retire in the first lap (after Melbourne and Silverstone). That has to be a record, hasn't it?
