All they need to do is ensure that F1 has at least two teams who can win races. Engineer that however you like. But give us two teams who can win races and we'll have a sport again. The best races have come when Ferrari have been able to challenge for the lead on pace. They just need to ensure that sort of thing happens on a regular basis. What's happened this weekend with Mercedes being allowed to upgrade their engine is the exact thing they need to be working to reverse. I don't think any team that's leading by such a margin should have any upgrade tokens available to them. Forget gimmicks like this.

You are also suggesting a gimmick.

Retire those who support any kind of gimmicks and "for the show"-thinking. Formula E is for that. F1 is (should be) a simple sport like javelin or marathon and and must kept as that.

This fan would vote with his feet.

I vote for 100 pit stops!!!!

My translate isn't giving me clues -what does he mean? Fans vote when a driver comes in? How many pitstops Pirelli should give tyres for? Or mandated number of stops for all drivers? Sorry, its not clear.
Then again, whatever it is - its mad haha.

You should be able to win stuff by watching!

100% delusional NUTCASE on this matter!
as model ZETSCHE taks about DRESSAGE HORSE RIDING! were people can vote the runs interactively already.... SERIOUSLY!
get him an AMBULANCE to the nearest MADHOUSE!
and probably dismal FANBOOST is also a pro in his argumenation...
typical CEO: "the competition has X, why don't we have this?"

Well no the gimmick already exists. What I'm saying is it's illogical to allow a team that's dominating to upgrade their engine further if the point of the tokens is to try and bring the field together.

Dressage is competition to F1?!
Then again, a local ostrich race got more fans than Phoenix '90, so maybe we should bring in birds somehow....

Surely he's just having a laugh.
Mercedes won't even support any relaxing of the engine regulations (and they have every right not to, that's not the point).

Where exactly in this article is the Zetsche quote "fans could vote for pit stops", i can't find it?

There isn't any, though the article does mention: "Er kann sich zum Beispiel vorstellen, dass die Zuschauer über digitale Kanäle einen Boxenstopp fordern."
Unfortunately journalists have a tendency to rewrite people's statements, perhaps to give themselves something to do. But in this case it means there is no actual quote.

Doch was hat Zetsche genau im Sinn? Er kann sich zum Beispiel vorstellen, dass die Zuschauer über digitale Kanäle einen Boxenstopp fordern.
Edit - Btw. quote is from the article headline.

just put it in translate
"for instance he could think of the fans submitting a request for a pit stop via digital channels..."
edit: he thinks this kind of interactivity could be fun... hahaha
I d rather had the possibilty to chose my desired camera... of all on all cars all the time.... (Or is this already possible with sky?)
bandwidth still a problem me thinks..

The problem is when people suggest that F1 needs to embrace new platforms or whatever, the people either in charge or in a prominent position in the sport extrapolate that and you end up suggestions like this or that awful fan boost thing.
Or you could just, you know, make the product you already have more accessible and stuff?

The most stupid idea I have ever heard which comes in a year where stupid ideas is quite normal.

I thought FanBoost was ridiculous, but this would be a whole other level. I'd stop watching immediately. Hopefully it's a misquote or he was joking.

I've clicked on three topics on this forum so far.. and in terms of any kind of logic or sanity, it's 0/3. Geez.
(No offense intended to anyone personally)
It's really hard to even reply because it's acknowledging them in the first place, and they aren't even worthy of that.

I wonder what you'd end up with, if you had a racing series that included all of the stupid ideas over the years. Sprinklers, short cuts, fan boost, this, etc.
Probably a real life version of Mario Kart.

Does anyone remember a CART advertisement from back in the 90's where people are yelling at Mark Blundell on the TV screen with some screaming 'PIT' others yelling 'DON'T PIT'...?
gosh, that was funny..

I'd forgotten about that.
Probably the best and most realistic F1 game Codemasters has ever made.
