After the FIA finally crunched the grid out it is time to start into the race day. Thanks to the Mercedes and Ferraris engine upgrades we could finally get a real race at the top. Behind them we will probably see the war of the Mercedes costumer teams. After 168 grid penaltys we also have some competitive cars in the back (no Mr. Arai, I dont mean McLaren-Honda) which will bring us some action. And who knows which changes we might see on the grid with this madness until the race start....

Provisional grid
  • Hamilton
  • Raikkonen
  • Vettel
  • Rosberg
  • Massa
  • Bottas
  • Perez
  • Grosjean
  • Hulkenberg
  • Maldonado
  • Nasr

  • Stevens
  • Merhi
  • Button
  • Alonso
  • Sainz
  • Kvyat
  • Ricciardo
  • Verstappen (+ Drive Through)

I'd love Massa to win tomorrow, or at least a podium. He's the first of the non dodgy Mercs.

One more thing, you're cooler than, Mark Lamarr and Marky Mark combined. Quite possibly the best Mark ever.

What exactly is dodgy about Lewis? AMuS has confirmed the issue will not occur on Lewis's engine. It was a heat exchanger defect.

Dont think the Force Indias will be able to move forward :|

The new car eats up the tires really fast and Williams look quicker. Oh well, at least I think they can beat Grosjean

I have my fingers crossed for the pair of Ferrari's jumping past the Lewis at the start,  it would at least make for an interesting race until the Lewis gets past with ease or starts playing bumper cars with the whole field like he normally does when he gets some real competition

Lewis to break early at T1 and be mugged by Kimi around the outside. Race long slipstream battle with Seb towed along in P3.

Why like he normally does? Hungary is the first race in a long time he has collided with another driver causing serious damage (other than Nico, but that was rather Nico colliding into him). Hungary last year, and Germany, he went through the field pretty easy. No bumper cars. Only really did damage to Button's car but that was a genuine misunderstanding between the two and not an overambitious move. Infact watch the GP2 Istanbul race. Still the best ever performance I've seen from Lewis. Flew through the field in equal machinery into second place.

A most respectable opening post. Not quite Indycar level, but nevertheless high in informative content. Bravissimo Marklar.

I have high hopes for the race, and I have a dream that includes silvery cars plowing through gravel, but let us not get carried away here.

After being reminded by Herbert's review of his 1995 win, I'd love another chaotic race like that - they just don't happen anymore. The GP2 race showed how Monza is great for racing, so if the Ferraris can jump Hamilton at the start it could potentailly be a 2015 classic. Let's see.

Only in his worst nightmare could Dietrich Mateschitz imagine that after spending many millions and dominating for four years consecutively, would all four Red Bull related cars start at the very back. Could things get any worse? Is this the tipping point? IMO what happened at Monza last year to Ferrari was what started the night of the long knives.

We're definitely going to see a lot of cars fighting their way through the field. Too many to expect that all of them will emerge unscathed.

Meanwhile over in the Lewis Hamilton fan clubhouse, nerves are raw, paramedics are standing by, and all defibrillators are fully charged. Over what many don't understand, but sympathetic souls are attempting to cover the entire structure in tin foil, anything to keep out the bad vibes. And for the Hamilton fans, remember that both Valium and Viagra are little blue pills, read the label carefully or you may miss the race.

I expect both Mercedes cars to overcome whatever start difficulties they may experience, and finish 1 - 2. But behind that, all bets are off, it may get interesting.

I predict a mega start, phenomenal overtaking moves, and a storming drive through the field to put the Renault powered RB11 in a finishing position it never deserved ! ! !

( Somewhere around 13th  most likely )

Got a good feeling about this race, the start will be key for all of us to have an entertaining battle for the lead. If neither Ferrari can jump Lewis at the start, I fear he will disappear off into the distance and leave plenty of people deflated after Ferrari closed the gap in quali yday.

Having said that, there should be great action all the way throughout the field, the Red Bulls and Toro Rosso's with new engines should be fun to watch, they might have their own four way scrap as I can't see them getting in the points, the highest they might get is to Nasr. The McLaren's are ahead of all four of those cars on the grid so it will be a like for like comparison between the Honda PU and the Renault one.

Lotus, Force India and Ericsson will have a battle too I'm sure with Williams just out of reach for this group, might be a lonely race for the Williams boys and Rosberg potentially.

This is what sport is all about, you cannot bask in the joys of success without standing on the precipice of failure.

If Hamilton wins, and he should, you will breathe out a collective sigh of satisfaction, and some will reach for that other blue pill.

The Ferraris need to start aggressively. Lewis has more to lose than them. They should take advantage of that.

How awesome would be a Ferrari one two in Italy. ^.^

9.30am in Monza and it's bright sun, blues skies and it's pretty warm. It rained last night at around 8pm for about 15 minutes, not sure what that'll do to the track if anything at all, it was a light rain.

Everyone  has tyre problems and the slow but steady Manors 1 & 2.

Well maybe not but the Renaults will self destruct as will the Hondas so the Manors are a podium hope!

I watched some of the FOM highlight clips of earlier races last night and was somewhat surprised by the number of good scraps we've seen over the years.

Hamilton vs. Schumacher in 2011 was quite amusing, even if Michael - as always - pushed the limits of what was allowed.

Vettel and Alonso have had multiple nice battles here, and who can forget the strategic cat-and-mouse game between Alonso and Button in 2010?

I'm pretty sure Hamilton will walk away with this, but even if he does the midfield, and especially the large number of faster cars towards the back, can still provide plenty of entertainment.

That's the plan, at least. :p

If the engine worries come into play for Hamilton, then it could easily be a Ferrari 1-2 led by Kimi.

Can someone explain (sorry if stupid question) why Ericsson's 3 place grid penalty is only 2 places, given that he was the last to have the penalty applied to him?

The rule who got the penalty first is only coming into the play if two drivers have the same grid position after the penaltys as follows...

11. Nasr = 12
12. Ericsson 10+3 = 13
13. Stevens = 19
14. Merhi = 20
15. Button 16+5 = 21
16. Alonso 17+10 = 27
17. Sainz 13+35 = 48
18. Kvyat 14+35 = 49
19. Ricciardo 15+50 = 65
20. Verstappen NC + 20 = NC

So could they fix Nico's car under parc ferme ?

He used the old engine under parc ferme, so he cant anyway use the new engine. It will be investigate in Brixworth. It is not secured yet that this engine will be useable in the future. The general problem which may accured the failure is allowed to be fix under par ferme though

As a Kimi fan it's been quite a while since I was this excited prior to the start of the race. I just hope Kimi doesn't lose his great qualifying straight away at the start, in Spa he was probably one of the worst starters of the field. Hopefully Ferrari can surprise but I still expect an easy victory for Lewis.
