Rob Smedley:

"It doesn't matter what it is," said Smedley. "If it's 0.3 or minus 10. When you have a technical regulation, you have to stick to that technical regulation.

"With wings we measure them and we get them to within half a millimeter of the regulations, but they are half a millimeter within, we don't go outside the technical regulations.

"And if we did go outside and we were caught going outside then we would be disqualified.

"There's a technical regulation and that's in place in order that you don't infringe it.

"So where do you go with wings? What do you do with car heights? What do you with your power units? Is it alright a bit, but it's not alright a lot?

"We all abide by that technical regulation. If we all added a little bit then all of our cars would be two seconds quicker.

"If I took a little bit in every single area of the car, the car would be two seconds quicker, so we don't take a little bit anywhere.

"There's a technical regulation and they've infringed the technical regulation. End of story."

Smedley and Symonds are at least two people who should be barred from talking or otherwise contributing in any shape or form on subjects involving cheating.

As the bbc reported there was a second in laptimes when Hamilton went hammer time so there was no chance of a ferrari one/two in qualifying

Well to be fair Ferrari turned it up to 11 for qualifying, different circumstances, they didn't run the race on that setting.

Sporting regulations vs technical regulations. Smedley was also just following orders.

Technical regulations have been broken in the past and the FIA has managed to twist things so no disqualifications happen. Anyone who has watched the sport for a decent length of time, or worked in it like Smedley has for a number of years, should be aware of this.

Not that I disagree that technical regulations should be sacrosanct and never bent, but the history of the sport shows this happens quite a lot.

Sporting regulations vs technical regulations... your point being?

The fact that Smedley was just following orders doesn't take away the fact that he played a part in the team orders saga. Just like Pat Symonds did in Crashgate - he wasn't the only one involved, may not have been the mastermind (my memory on that is fuzzy), but he did play a part. Taking the moral high ground on such an issue comes off as a tad hypocritical.

Just a tad,  its quite amusing how the prospect of a few more points and another podium can cause the brain to engage nuetral

This is something with a very clear regulation and is measurable.

And trying to call Smedley a hypocrite is seriously reaching, anyways. Not that I'm on Smedley's side here, wishing for Mercedes to be punished, but this is a terribly poor attempt at discrediting somebody. The two situations are incredibly different in a number of ways.

Smedley would have done better to keep stum, easy enough to defer a question than be drawn into making statements on something that you are not in full possession of the relevant facts, as it happens Merc were found to have done nothing wrong,

Was really just responding to the accusations of hypocrisy.

Sean  some would see it a tad hypocritical for a man involved in making a driver give up a racing place in favour of his team mate commenting about the perceived misdeeds of another team, ditto for someone involved in crash gate,

Why?

Not following the boss' order in Ferrari, usually leads to the closest door marked with "exit".

For anyone interested he's my video of the podium (from interviews until the drivers left the podium). By far the best podium of the year, especially when you combine Tifosi, Vettel as a Ferrari driver and Massa.

No, considering the situations are quite different as I've explained.

The blue flagging this race was so bad I found myself mumbling "next thing you know they'll be blue flagging Checo". Lo and behold, one lap later,…

*sigh*

How Pat Symonds kept a straight face when answering questions about infringing rules on Sky Sports F1 yesterday, I will never know. I thought I had seen it all, there really is no shame for some. He must think we the viewers have no retentive memory.  :drunk:  :stoned:

That's excellent. Thank you for uploading it for us to see.

It's a nice illustration of why those who claim Ferrari is 'just another team' couldn't be more wrong.

No kidding. Sometimes it is indeed better to keep quiet about certain topics, especially if your name is all over the atrocity that is the Singapore Grand Prix of 2008.

Almost perfect. Nothing a bit of Photoshop can't fix, though.
