Goodyear announced their intention to leave the sport in one year around this time - and although Benetton and Mclaren both had contracts with Goodyear for 1998, it enabled those teams to void the contracts legally and move to Bridgestone.

Who were Sauber's sponsor at the time, so I wouldn't necessarily associate them with any driver.

Heidfeld drove for Prost in 2000 then started his Sauber stint in 2001. So it's reasonable he'd be testing a Sauber in Dec 2000. I did find two pics from an early Dec test but he's in his normal helmet. I can't see how Ralf would have tested a Sauber, or anything, given he was already at Williams and that was the start of the BMW era. Curious. But interesting.

There's precedent for borrowed helmets. Michael leant DC his spare at Monaco for example. It's odd, but not unbelievable.

Can't believe I forgot about Heidfeld in the Prost in 2000. What a forgettable year for all involved.

-Tommy Rustad spun after 700m during the Test.

Not quite correct there.
Rustad was invited down due to his results in Formula Opel Lotus, and sponsor Beta. He was promised a test in a F1 car. However, when he arrived, he was told that the deal was that he was going to be there for the test, but not actually drive. After a bit of arguing on such, Minardi reluctantly gave him a chance to drive.

He lasted more than 700m though. But not extremely much. He spun on his 3rd or 4th lap. And that was it for his "test" in F1. However, it's still a bit funny, it's still the second closest to an F1 drive any Norwegian have been, and it was only 2 years after he became the youngest winner ever in a FIA Rallycross event, in the top class (Then, Group B+) - a record he would hold until 2011.

Later on he have gone on winning the independent trophy in BTCC, in the SuperTouring era - when there was a difference between manufacturer and independents. And won STCC twice, been European Champion in RX.

The Markku Alén one is presumably a privately owned March he's driving fun, judging by his age then, the colour of the car not matching the works team and the fact it was a two year old car.

Who were F3 drivers thiat year for Paul Stewart Racing? Scheckter and Karthikeyan? Doesn't really match either of their helmets.

 

I've just looked up all the 2000 Silverstone tests(god there was a lot of testing in the 00s) and of all the Jag runs it's Herbert, Irvine or Burti 99% of the time with a few appearances by Franchitti and Scheckter. So, did someone do a one lap PR thing? A filming day? 

 

It looks like a kind of Brazil-flag design, so maybe it is Burti. Olympics edition helmet or something?
