Clutching at straws here, but it's worth a try! As a winter project, I am building a replica of the Cadbury's Boost YZF 750 Yamaha as raced by Niall Mackenzie, Steve Hislop etc.in the early/mid nineties.

When examining the original bike at the Donington Classic Festival this year, I noticed that the bike had plastic/carbon fibre covers over the main frame spars. These were then painted in the Cadbury's purple colour. I spoke with Niall and asked him if he knew who made the original covers or if any were available.

He, unfortunately didn't know, but gave me contact details for Rob McElnea and Pete Beale (Pete I believe bought much of the race stock from Rob). However, despite contacting both, I haven't had a reply to my query. I also contacted a company that claimed to be the makers of the original fairings for the bike, but again, there was no reply to my query.

So, is there anyone out there in the Motorcycle racing community that can help?

My intention is to parade the bike when it has been completed.   ):

Hi when I have seen other Yzfs the covers had Harris logos on them. I would try them. Mark

Further to this, has anyone out there got an email address for Pete Beale Yamaha? I'm trying once again to contact him!

Thanks for the reply, but I already have a phone number for him, even his mobile number, which so far has proved fruitless.  I believe there is more chance of a reply via email. Hence I was hoping that someone could supply his email address.

I'm pretty sure Pete is/was registered on this forum too, but I haven't seen him active for a few years.

Just had a reply from Harris Performance, it's bad news, they no longer have the moulds for the YZF 750. So another door closes!

Still hoping that someone out there in the racing community can help.

You could also try Spike Livingstone of Ragged Edge Racing, he could possibly help.

You also might want to try and get in touch with Yamaha Italy or Belgarda Yamaha as it was then, as they built most of the bike, certainly the engine, probably built by a chap called Beppe Russo who built all the WSBK YZF motors for them I think.

The Boosy bikes were pretty much Belgarda bikes in every sense

Thanks for your input, another lead worth following up.

I've been given a contact in the states who may be able to help, so I've sent an email, now awaiting a reply!

The bike is due to go for its paint job in a couple of weeks time, so I'm hoping I can track some of these frame protectors down before then.

Have you tried Peter Day?

He has a website with his contact details on.

Failing that, I have an original set although not painted in Cadbury purple anymore. I'm not looking to sell them but I'll send photos if required.

Hard to build nice Boost replicas, they were pretty trick things.

Thanks for the information, I'll give him a try.

All my efforts so far have fallen on stony ground, their just doesn't seem to be any around anymore!

The bike is currently at the paintshop, undergoing its transformation, then the hard work starts.

I rode my other machine (Honda RC145 replica) at this seasons Donington Classic Festival and fortunately, Niall Mackenzie had his original  "Cadbury's Boost" bike on display there. I spoke to Niall and took lots of photo's of the original bike, to help my build.

It will only be used for track parades, so I'm now starting to think I may have to compromise and have the main frame sides polished, as they were on the earlier bikes. Much as I would have liked to have the frame covers, it does seem unlikely, but I'll keep looking!

If you can make templates or better still give the frame to Chris to get an exact match I would suggest contacting Chris Alty at Carbon Fibre Works Ltd, Chris has been involved with classic 50 racing for many years, I think he may even be on here as kreidlergp.

Some excellent examples of his work on the classic forum, he will do one-offs too.

Hope this helps.

Just to add, Chris is on Faecesbook also...

Good luck!!

Where in the uk are you based? I'm in the North West.

I've had a think and these frame guards would be better on a nice rep. If I put them on a racer they might get trashed.

I'd look for £100 for the pair though as I'll probably never find another set.

Message me off line if you wish.

Apologies for bringing this topic back up, but the bike is now complete, including the unobtainable frame covers, thanks to information given on this forum!

I managed to get some made, after contacting Chris Alty at Carbon Fibre Works as recommended by Exclubracer.

So thanks to him and thanks to all who tried to help, much appreciated.

The bike will be out this season in Classic race meeting parades at Castle Combe, Olivers Mount, Mallory Bike Bonanza & the Donington Classic Festival. So I hope to see some of you out & about. Thanks again, Graham.

I would post a photo if i knew how to upload one!

Sorry about the size, but it's the first time that I have succeeded in uploading a photo!

If you click on the photo, it will appear a little bit bigger!

Thanks to Knickerbrook for the help in achieving this!     Cheers, Graham.

Cracking job there Graham, very well done.

I'll be at Mallory so I'll come and say hello and see the bike in the flesh.

Mick.

Just found it on Chris's Face book page.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I tried to get it as near as I could to Niall Mackenzie's 1998 BSB Championship winning bike, the last in the "Cadbury's Boost" livery, which rounded off his three year title winning run. It was the last of the four cylinder bikes to win for a while, as the next few seasons were the period of Ducati domination.

Chris Alty emailed me this morning to ask if it was ok to post the photo's on his companies Facebook page, I have no problems with that, credit where credit's due!

Thanks again, to all who posted ideas regarding the frame covers and special thanks to Mick for the Carbon Fibre Works link. I'm looking forward to meeting you at Mallory, Mick.

I hope that people will enjoy seeing the bike out on track and that it will bring back a few memories for those that remember the "Cadbury's Boost" bikes.  I won't however be riding it as hard as Niall used to do, it took me too much time & effort to build!

Niall has promised to sign the bike for me when I catch up with him sometime in the season.
