The exact name for the series isn't known, but it will run under Jaime Alguersuari Senior.

It's not clear yet, which team will participate, but the word is that DAMS will withdraw and Fortec could run a second team (according to italiaracing.net).

My guesses so far:

It will be very interesting how it will goes on with the Lotus team if Lotus F1 will be sold to Renault. Perhaps that will be the new Renault F1 junior team?

Fortec: Charles Leclerc - Ben Barnicoat

Lotus: Alex Fontana - Callan O'Keffee

DAMS: Dean Stoneman - Jake Hughes

Strakke: Tio Ellinas - Gustav Malja

Arden: Egor Orudzhev - Emil Bernstorff

Carlin: Gustavo Menezes - Jake Dennis

Draco: Bruno Bonifacio - Vitor Baptista

Tech-1: Roy Nissany - Anthoine Hubert

Pons: Yu Kanamaru - Yarin Stern

AVF: Alfonso Celis jr. - Tatiana Calderón

Comtec: Louis Délétraz - Marvin Kirchhöfer

These lists, like the ones you do for GP2, are pure fantasy

Speculate, yes, but only list confirmed names

I would not be surprised to see Marvin Kirchofer becoming a driver à Tom Dillmann or Blomqvist with Alfonso Celis Jr.

He became friend with him.

No wonder why Marvin is testing with AVF i think.

According to italiaracing.net Draco is going to leave Racing and Formula 3.5 at the end of the season. The cars are sold to Spirit of Race.

So it's down to 10 teams with the possibility of Lazarus joining the grid.

Seems like they'll just break even on numbers then (with most races this year being ~20 cars).

Why james calado?

I don't get that one either, he seems to have gotten into a career as a Ferrari factory driver!

Spirit of Racing belongs to AF Corse boss Amato Ferrari and Calado is one of their GT drivers. Maybe that's the logic behind it.

The series organisers are an imaginative lot aren't they? They basically just took out the Renault name.

Seems like the series is going back to its Spanish roots with that calendar. Nurburgring is no longer there, and they've added Barcelona. Apparently Renault will still let them share the Aragon opening weekend with Eurocup FR2.0.

And the World bit, which given the calendar is only fair.  They could call it Auto GP, or Superleague, or A1GP.  Whatever they call it, it is now doomed to decline and die.  I give it two seasons at best.

World =! Europe, never cared for that part of the name. About as logical as "International GT Open" (with a tiny handful of non-European drivers, and all teams\circuits being European).

It used to be called "Euro Open by Nissan" for good reason.

So with Kirchofer and Celis Jr at AVF for both days of testing i guess that we have already our first line-up for 2016.

If the field has comparable quality to one of these tests, i guess that we might be on for an Orudhzev vs Kirchofer battle.

I guess technically the World Series by Renault referred to the whole package, with this series being Formula Renault 3.5. (With a 3.4 litre engine, but go figure.) I rather share your scepticism though. With a new Formula Two starting up and without the Renault backing that made the series a good career prospect, unfortunately it's going to turn into another Auto GP dead end.

What is happening to the Eurocup 2.0, out of interest?

The 2.0 will remain backed by Renault, strangely.

The alternative is to call it Formula 3000 (or Formula 3500 to be precise).  :stoned:  :stoned:

Not really , the 2.0 series has been the core championship of renault in junior series since the end of 60's.

Why would Calado leave WEC where he has a paying drive and his sights presumably set on eventually LMP1 for a paid seat in single seat junior formula lower than one he left 2 years ago? Even if he won it he wouldn't be any closed to F1 so what would be the point?

RP Motorsport will also be joining in 2016: http://www.paddocksc...la-3-5-v8/31533

I'm not sure it's dead yet. They've made a net gain of one team so far, and 18 cars turned up to the Jerez test yesterday (including notable newcomers such as Jack Aitken, Jake Hughes, Marvin Kirchhofer and George Russell). It also has the advantage of being cheaper than GP3, F3 and GP2.
