Forgive me if it's been discussed before, couldn't find anything on it. As far as I'm aware there's no way to notify people without quoting their posts (or liking, but that's a separate feature). I think it would be convenient to be able to tag other people in a regular post in order to attract their attention for whatever reason; something like @Username in order to tag them.

I dont know what the point would be about that tbh: if you want to attract the attention of an member about the topic than you are quoting him, if you want to attract his attention in any other way than you PM him. I cant think of any case where tagging would be any different.

I predominantly use this forum on my smart phone. If I were to pm a member it's a mission in Web browsing terms, where as being able to type "@Marklar" it's all done in a few keystrokes

That would feel like (or could work out like) some kind of harassment to me (I know it from twitter: "Respond or else you're a coward"). I'm very glad that it's not a possibility here.

 

And as others already said, we have PM function for that.
