Mercedes\Ferrari not willing to supply teams that might be able to compete with them should be a concern for the whole competition

Yes. Why should any team get inferior equipment just because they dont have the political clout of Ferrari? Why spend money for F1 when they aren't given a fair chance to win?

So your contention is that every F1 team supplier must make it's parts available to all teams at the same price for the same spec?

No regulation says that engine suppliers (or any supplier) needs to supply identical parts to all teams (except spec parts like ECU, tyres etc).

Should Brembo be forced to supply identical brakes?  Shell identical fuels?

Yes, they did. The engine was to be homologated by the start of the season.

And brakes are not power units. And Brembo has no conflict of interest by being a supplier and a participant.

We have been told (by RBR) that they are scared they won't get the latest S/W - they are happy with the mechanicals.

So your 'everybody must be able to buy the same spec' only applies to PUs?

What does this have to do with your opinion that the engine supplier isn't forced to supply the same power unit?

And last i heard neither Merc nor Ferrari are willing to supply a current (2016) engine. Unless it's Manor : to them Merc can supply a power unit. :drunk:

According To Nikki Lauda, Merc are supply Manor because Dietrich  only asked them once? They must expect Billionaires to grovel??

I doubt it! But maybe he didn't ask in an official manor?

Lauda plenty of time talks BS. And in this situation he has to defend Merc who isn't willing to supply RB (but are too cowards to admit it or is bad for PR) but supplies Manor.

Of course even the explanation that RB only asked once or didn't ask enough times is stupid.

If I was Mercedes, I wouldn't supply Red Bull either, given how quickly they throw stones at you...

Q: Red Bull wanted an engine deal with Mercedes, but that is not going to happen. Why? Was there a fear at Mercedes of too much competition?

HM: You better ask Toto Wolff. He is the one to know.

Q: We did - and the simple answer was that the engine is the decisive factor in F1 racing right now and that they have worked very hard to achieve their success, hence they opted against supplying Red Bull but want to continue their model of supporting independent, privateer racing teams

HM: Yep, straightforward.

Can't fault Merc for wanting to hold on to the advantage they worked hard for.

RB find themselves in this position because they couldn't manage the relationship with renault.

Has anyone mentioned that this infers low confidence in their own aerodynamics and mechanical department.
Basically they are saying Red Bull will do a better job than you guys, so we're gonna keep our engine advantage.
Surely these departments of Ferrari and Mercedes will be a bit hurt by this?
