Yep he said on sky today (when talking about a Redbull supply) 'They didn't get back in touch with us, and then we signed the contract with Manor so we didn't revisit it any more'

The caps in the title hurt my eyes. Plus it isn't even breaking news, nor does it deserve its own thread.

I think they're getting technical assistance too. And they've got Bob Bell on board as well.

Toto Wolff was saying it will be a nice story for F1 as they can go from almost extinction to hopefully regular points scorers. With the Mercedes engine you've got to expect they'll shoot up the standings, especially as Redbull and Torro will be powered by year-old ferraris, much like Manor this year...

Yes, but surely this could be discussed in the Manor car thread?

Quite good news for Manor and I will be interested to see what kind of assistance Williams are supposed to be giving them.  I guess having Pat Symonds on board with my lot, he may still have a soft spot for the Manor boys and girls after his time there.  Still, good to see that they are planning for the future as opposed to merely aiming to exist.

Such a shame that a powerful engine like that goes to waste to such a team. Kudos for Manor for pulling it off, but they're still gonna be back of the grid next year.

I wish McLaren or Red Bull had gotten the deal, especially Red Bull, would have made the championship a lot more exciting.

So you are saying a black maker team cant evolve and make progress ?

Red bull had there chance if the story if correct they never came  back to collect on the deal

Its people like you that put small teams down there no different than any other team, Every team started at the back

Am I the only one who expected the word "Red Bull" instead of "Manor" given the caps?

Anyway, that should give Manor a boost for next year. Expecting them to be at least 1 second closer to the rest of the field. Which might hurt McHonda.

Really? With Merc and Williams tech assistance They'll give the Macs a lot more trouble next year.

Fair point. However, consider that some forum members do not visit each and every thread. :)

We are supposed to believe that RedBull were not interested in Merc engines?

Why would Merc want to supply the weakest team on the grid? Perhaps so that they can claim that it's not possible now to supply RedBull.

Huh McLaren? They walked away and said having Merc engines will mean they will never win the WDC, Funny thing is everyone agreed early this season saying only a Works teams can win. All of a sudden as soon as RB want out many now say Customers can win,

It is basically going to become a Merc B team, with possibly Pascal Wehrlein getting a seat. So I can see why they would favour this over Red Bull and then that's the perfect excuse.

Correct me if I am wrong here ? but did you even think what would happen to the sport if that were to happen

Honda would need to leave the sport for them to go back to merc engines that happing would be such be bad press for them and F1  it would likely turn of a lot of viewers

But you don't see people discuss the Mercedes tyre pressure breach in the Merc W07 thread.

That is true, but the Mercedes tyre pressure breach was exploding into several forums: Lewis Hamilton vs Nico Rosberg, Mercedes W06 thread, Italian GP race day thread. The forum went crazy, and it ideally needed to be in one central place.

Jeeze, what is it with folk around here and their constant obsession with telling folk how/where to post?

If a discussion isn't worthy then it'll fall off the front page and into forum history... It's no huge deal is it?

That engine should bring them already 1.5-2 seconds closer to the front? And a new chassis, perhaps similar. They may well in McLaren's and Sauber's hair next year. Would be much healthier to have them racing rather than just getting out of the way.

McLaren be careful next year. There's a big risk they'll become the last team of the grid.

If they have been developing the chassis around the merc engine from the start it could even bring them 3 seconds

For sure it looks likely that Pascal will drive for them next year as part payment and with the Williams deal should be up there as you say

They might have realised Jeez we need to get a move on here as it looks like hass is/will me a mid field team out the blocks and leave us out the points forever

Indeed, as even Haas may end up only slow in pit stops. Not a bad screw going on their car thanks to Ferrari. The mid pack could get nicely crowded, just as I like it.

After suffering this year, I do wish for the Manor team to enjoy some exciting racing and a couple hard earned points.

Probably a discount in exchange for at least one of the race seats.

You are assuming Lauda is telling the truth. He has a habit of bending it. If they had a choice between Mercedes B team Manor and Red Bull I'm sure they'd find a way to scare Red Bull away.

Manor Mercedes - sounds nice. I think Merc will become major stakeholder and apply the RB/TR model. Its a great way for them to start a young drivers program. They must be a tad envious of RB pedigree drivers.

I'm not super surprised Manor are able to buy these engines, aren't they bankrolled by Jordan King's dad now (or something like that)? This year was a write-off due to the very late start and almost miraculous return from administration, but they've got a plan for moving forward. Add Wehrlein's engine discount, and it really doesn't sounds that wild.

I wouldn't be shocked if they can match Sauber next year. Should also be ahead of Haas, but that's depending on how much Haas is really a new team or a thinly disguised Ferrari.

Why do you want to move discussion about Manor in 2016 to the 2015 Manor thread?

And how many people visit the 2015 Manor thread anyways? This is news worthy of a new thread without a doubt.

Is this confirmed confirmed now or only confirmed? I do wish people would make their minds up more quickly...

It's a good move for Manor. Stick a junior in - and presumably a fairly talented one - and get the best engines in the back in return. Win win, and if they've been working on the new car diligently they should be moving forward.

Nope. Do it the Marussia-way with Bianchi, or the Minardi-way. One talent, one who pays for it.

Not according to Red Bull.  The car is responsible for the four WCCs in spite of the engine.
