Hope you don't mind but this is urgent !
It has come to light that the Debden Sprint meeting is so desperately short of marshals for the meeting a Sunday 4th October…….. unless we can find some volunteers in the next few days the meeting will be cancelled disappointing nearly 100 competitors.Cars of all types and ages.
This is the plight now of grass roots motor sport..unless we can get new young people in to motor racing .. we will lose it.
EX - RAF Debden is about 8 miles north of Stansted airport just off the A11/M11 near Saffron Walden Built in 1935 used for RAF fighters and latterly USAF bombers during WW2. The two big runways and link roads we use are all good tarmac.
So this is a plea to any of you prepared to help out on the day. No experience needed, training given, your function would be to man posts for observation, support etc all day . Drivers here are very well behaved, there is a separate emergency rescue vehicle and ambulance all overseen by a FIA steward – so no arduous duties you will be shown what to do, and you will all get a free lunch, but no pay - you will be guanteed something from the prize draw .
The Herts Country Auto & Aero Club is the oldest in the country – pre dates aircraft… the ‘aero’ was ballooning . They are desperate - do please help if you possibly can – it is a fun day with totally relaxed atmosphere reminiscent of the early 1960s and 100 cars of all classes and varieties.
Here is a message from the Clerk of the course ( never misses a film show) Pete Walters please reply direct to him – he will welcome you with open arms !
We are very short of marshals for October and it would be marvellous if you and some friends could help us out. We have a record 93 entries, but may have to cancel if we do not have enough marshals.
No special skills required and you will be with a team who can teach you anything you might need.
You will get a free meal voucher and will win at least £10 in the marshals' prize draw (you might even get £20, £30, £40 or £50).
Marshal's signing-on will be 08:30 hours and the runs should be finished by 17:00 hours (so you could get away 30 minutes later).
Best regards,
Pete Walters
If you could help out email or pm me and I will forward your message
