Hi,

Okay, have decided after considering a few options that the Hungarian Grand Prix next year is the best fit.

I've been to Budapest before so I know where I'd probably like to stay but have a few questions I am hoping some of you can help with.

Transport from the city to the track - what is the best way to do this and at what kind of time (I'd want to be in for FP1 on the Friday)

Where to watch the action from - If it was just met going, I'd probably opt for GA but my Dad is probably going with me and would probably prefer something to sit on - where is the best place to watch from where we can see more than one part of the track? I was thinking somewhere around either turn 12 or the final corner. The prices look reasonable enough for most of the track so don't think this will be a major factor.

Any replies will be appreciated.

Thanks,

J

I think the best place to watch is definitely the last corner, you can see the last third of the track from the grandstands and watching the cars fly through the last corner can be really entertaining. The downside is that the grandstands are not covered in that area and in July temperatures can easily rise above 35 C degrees, so caps, towels and tons of water are highly recommended.

If you wish to use public transport, probably there will be a direct "GP" bus line between "Árpád híd" bus station and the track during the weekend. That's a 30-45 minute long ride. Another option would be the Suburban railway (HÉV in Hungarian) line H8 from "Örs vezér tere" to "Mogyoród" station. I think this year there was an another bus line between "Mogyoród" station and the track, but on foot that's a longer trip (40-60 minutes). Here you can find all the options from this year, you can expect something similar:

Regarding the transportation this site could be usefull

http://www.hungaroin...mel1/faq_en.htm

With the free shuttle bus:
Free bus transportation is offered by the organizers of the Hungarian Grand Prix for ticket holders. Volánbusz buses depart from Budapest Árpád hid Volánbusz station (at the Pest side of Árpád hid, near the Metro station - Árboc u. 1, Budapest) to Mogyoród centre (Templom Square). From Templom Square, the race track is about a 20-30 minutes walk. The service is free of charge for all passengers presenting a valid ticket for the Grand Prix or a ticket pick-up voucher.

Point of departures:

Friday
Árpád bridge: from 07.30 till 11.00 every 15-20 minutes, from 11:00 till 16:00 every 30 minutes
Mogyoród church square: from 16.00 till 19.00 every 15-20 minutes

Saturday
Árpád bridge: from 07.30 till 11.00 every 6-8 minutes, from 11:00 till 16:00 every 30 minutes
Mogyoród church square: from 16.00 till 19.00 every 6-7 minutes

Sunday
Árpád bridge: from 07.30 till 12.00 every 5-7 minutes, , from 12:00 till 16:00 every 30 minutes
Mogyoród church square: from 16.00 till 19.00 every 5-7 minutes

By train:
Another option is to take the suburban railway (Hév). Take the H8 line direction Gödöllő from Örs vezér tere. Örs vezér tere is reachable from Buda and the city center by metro line M2, from North and South Pest by tram line 3 or buses

Trains are operating every 15-20 minutes. Please find the exact timetable here:
http://www.bkk.hu/ap.../20100610/b.pdf

From the station “Szilasliget”, gates 3, 4 and 5 are an approx.. 30 minutes walk
From the station “Mogyoród”, gates 1, 2, 7 and 8 can be reached by feet in about 30-40 minutes.

The train is not free of charge, costing approx. HUF 500,00 for a one-way ticket per person. (1€ = approx. HUF 300)

Best place to watch is for me Silver 3

or Silver 4 (would prefer that)

The great overtakes are usually in Gold 4 (usually more expensive)

Personally I prefer the standing areas :p

That's great information / detail guys, I'm very grateful. Silver 3 or 4 both look good!

Will take the bus - I imagined there would be a service for fans but good to have this confirmation!

I'd probably prefer to stand too (I always do at football!) but my Dad wouldn't be able to manage that and would want to be with him so will probably opt for a seat. On Fridays' is there the option of moving around the track?

Generally you can always move around the track on friday, also in Budapest. I dont think that this has changed. At some circuits you are not allowed to go to certain places though (eg this year in Monza it was allowed to go everywhere except of one of the grandstands). Should something be excluded than you will be somehow informed when you are booking the ticket I think, but as far as I know is that Hungary has no exceptions, so you can move around the track on friday, for me thats anyway the best part of the whole weekend ;)

Yeah that is what was great about Monza when I went - being able to see the cars at different points of the circuit.

Friday is my favourite day too, really for that very reason.

Thanks again - will hopefully have something booked soon. I've been holding off slightly due to the uncertainty over dates as the calendar seems to have changed a few times but hoping to get one with things in the next few weeks!

Hi Jon, I've been twice - most recent in 2014. I think it's better to wait until December when the final calendar for 2016 is ratified > there's been a lot of change to the provisional calendar this year! (I got caught out with booking China too early for 2015 and then the calendar changed. We had a nice weekend in Shanghai, but the GP had been on one week earlier!)

I agree that pretty much any of the grandstands on the final corner are worth it. General Admission is also decent at the Hungaroring.

More info on tickets in our guide: http://f1destination...-f1-grand-prix/

I hope someone can confirm, but I believe that there was no 'Free Friday' in 2015 > definitely a change for the worse and disappointing. A few fans told me they were unable to get into grandstands as would normally be the case in recent years on a Friday. Also, I noticed that there were prices for Friday only grandstand tickets advertised on the main Hungaroring site. It's a pity:(

I've taken the train. It's ok, but there is a fairly long walk. Also driven - parking was free at the circuit and it wasn't too difficult to get in and out (didn't try on race day). More info in our getting around section of our guide: http://f1destination...-f1-grand-prix/

All sections can be read here: http://f1destination...-prix-budapest/

Good luck.

Great information to have Andy, thanks very much. I think it'll be late November / early December at the earliest before I get on with booking things.

Some good info on here thanks. My son and I are going to the Hungarian GP 2016 for the first time. Have booked Silver 4 and all hotels booked with free cancellation just in case dates change again. we've already had to change the hotel dates once. Has anyone got any advice on Budapest itself, we've never been before and would be interested to hear of good things to do over the long weekend and decent restaurants etc.

I'm planning to go to the next Hungarian GP on GA - can anyone confirm that you don't have access to other grandstands on Friday anymore?
