Flavio should run FIA as well, that would be fun to watch.

According to Bernie, Flavio has been blocked as his successor

"I would love Flavio (Briatore) to come back," he told the Star, referring to the flamboyant former Renault team boss who left F1 in disgrace after the 'crashgate' scandal.

"But there are blocks on him and that is so sad and a great loss to F1," Ecclestone added.

Is this for real?

Briatore smells. Smells bad.

Bernie - "so sad" :rotfl: "a great loss"

Perhaps the FIA should make a vote, just like the qualification system:

A: pay $1B.

B: Briatore

Jacky Stewart claims today in AMuS that a big, well-known company will come into Formula One as a global sponsor soon. Interesting

New owner eh? Well that has bee mooted for 18 months. How often has the ISO been put back. No right minded CEO would buy this franchise if it stipulates that Ecclestone has to remain in situ. The only reason I can think of for Ecclestone wanting to stay in control is that he does not want any forensic audit of his business deals. At least not while he would still be around to explain them. Mark my words, when the Edifice finally crumbles Ecclestone will be found to be worse than Maidoff.

Weren't CVC contractually obligated to sell F1 by the end of 2015 or something like that? As for Bernard, he is making them money, so he's good for the CVC. He's just bad for the fans and the future of the sport as everything is about squeezing as much money as possible as quickly as possible, instead of creating growth.

That was the Nordic bank that is state owned, they came on as part of the flotation as they are technically not allowed to hold positions in private companies.  However, last I checked everybody was happy with returns, therefore were going to gov't to get dispensation to allow the continued investment.

ETA:  Regarding CVC, I recall this divestment date corresponds to the original investment strategy they gave their investors/partners and their general ethos in only holding onto an investment for a set target period.

I hope it's not Red Bull!

With the way the sport is being run at the moment I wouldn't be surprised if Flavio Briatore is given the job after Bernie goes.

Bernie has already said flavio would be fantastic....

If Red Bull ran it we would have most problems sorted over night. Fun and entertainment is what they are about. Sick of knockers, you same people would be complaining no matter who ran the sport or what the cars looked like or sounded in fact anything and every thing.

In your opinion! ;) :)

While I agree people will moan about absolutely anything and everything if Red Bull ran the sport it would end up in a worse mess than it is now due to the fact the rules would always be changed so they always win, which would drive all the manufactures out! Look at how much they complained last year... (We would see stupid things like reverse grids/success ballast, etc)

It is only my opinion and one that I am entitled to have, just like everyone but if Red Bull brought F1 it would only be a marketing tool for Red Bull and as soon as it didn't have the right return on investment they would sell up or close it down.

The way the sport is ran needs to change but it can't be ran by a single person or any competitor... Directly or indirectly!

Having just watched the latest Midweek Report on Sky, I say let's put Peter Windsor in charge of F1. Now wouldn't that be a thing...

Red Bull is just the promoter for WRC though.  To some degree that's what Bernie/CVC is too, but I thought there were big differences in rights and responsibilities between their work with WRC and Bernie/CVC with F1.  Or am I wrong?

I'm pretty sure Red Bull won't buy F1 but IF it happened I don't think they would continue to run cars in the world championship. RBR would turn to Aston Martin and TR would be bought by BMW or something, I reckon.

Give it in the hands of Stephane Ratel and after 2 years there will be 40 cars trying to qualify for each race and weekend tickets will cost 100€

Seems like it will be september now....

Interesting bit

The most likely suitors are media companies hunting for programming content, rather than another buyout firm. Rupert Murdoch’s Sky Plc, the Qatar Investment Authority and RSE Ventures, chaired by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, are interested in investing, said people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified as the process is private.

I remember when BE had his last set of well publicised legal troubles there were a couple of posters who were regularly in the thread about it ... and pretty much no others ... and they were quite well informed - far more so than the average round here.... and since the case ended they have buggered off never to return.

I also remember one year when the crisis in Bahrain was hot and one guy joined the forum a few weeks before the race  - and claimed he was in Bahrain and that everything was fine ... and that BE was a humanitarian who did a lot of behind the scenes charity work behind the scenes ... he even suggested that he knew BE personally. Then once the Bahrain race was out the way he buggered right off, again never to be seen again.

Recently, I said something I should not have said about a well known journalist - and to my extreme surprise I got a message from him telling me to put up or shut up.... I chose to shut up - I comment for fun, he does it for a living and so deserves more respect than I had shown him.

So what am I saying .... on some topics we should be conscious of what were are saying - more people pay attention to what we say here than we realise.... which is not to say we should not speak freely, but just that we should also realise that there is a bigger context to some topics.... and also we should be wary of PR firms and persons with real world agendas making use of the forum.

Carry on ...

Seeing as F1 is so tediously predictable these days, Bernie has come up with a plan of a brand new international motor-racing-related competition. One where various organisations and conglomerates compete to own F1. Everything has gone meta these days so why not F1?

Would Sky be allowed to own a sport they also broadcast exclusively?

Excellent news! It looks like I might finally be able to rid myself of F1 - something I used to love but now am growing less and less interested in. I shall start looking around for replacements immediately.

Edit: Ah, the Woodford Cricket Club is having a beer festival this weekend - that's a good start.

I thougt it wasn't Sky but Liberty Global - who also owns Virgin Media.

And I may be wrong, but Discovery Communications has a stake in Eurosport.

Oooh, a beer festival. Reasonable ticket prices, a good atmosphere, cheap drinks and live entertainment that doesn't make you want to fall asleep out of sheer boredom.

Sounds like a step up from a GP weekend.

Well, anyone who can organise a piss up at a beer festival is bound to be streets ahead of F1 where organisational ability goes out the window once it starts pissing down.  :p

So, there are two companies interested and they're both owned by the same man? Confusing.

No sign of Sir Philip Green, at least.

Here we are

Libery Media close to Formula 1 takeover. First money to be transferred next week. AMuS (in German): http://bit.ly/2bL4PwY  #f1

It is likely that Bernie will just stay for some time after that. A possible successor could be Alejandro Agag (Formula E).

It is planned to that the main revenue should be regarding the moving image rights, this should relieve the promoters.

Also it is planned to list them on the New york stock exchange...

Technically they aren't owned by John Malone they are a publically traded company but it is his baby.  The second bid was with Discovery Communications as well so it could be they were looking to see if having more parties involved could have led to a better deal.  Autoweek mentions that technically F1 would be publically traded on the NASDAQ.  http://autoweek.com/...unced-next-week  They could even spin off another tracking stock like they did for the baseball team and for Sirius/XM.

If the deal comes to pass and Chase Carey is installed as Chairman he'll be able to give Dieter Zetsche a run for his money in the "Biggest Mustache in F1" contest.
