FIA confirms that FP1 will only be an hour, and that the tyres reserved for the first half hour will not now be used
Meanwhile Ted Kravitz suggests that the diesel spillage delaying FP1 is in fact hydraulic fluid. Still a massive own goal by organisers

They should have just set fire to it and put on an entertainment show like they do at half time in US sporting events.

They are putting kitty litter down. Sort of. Should that be happening in F1 ? #diesel #vwrevenge?

Makes a change from the 'spillage' on race morning at Silverstone many years ago - someone forgot to close the stop valve on the porta-potti emptying truck before it took a short cut round part of the track - unfortunately we did not have a brown flag on the post....

Did FOM already show some slow motion replays of the track workers?

What did he say?
He was asked by Ted if he is afraid that McLaren could be the slowest car next year because Haas is getting Ferrari and Manor Mercedes engine and he replied: "Zero. McLaren will be one of the top cars next year...."

I'm sure Michelin tyres would have been capable of running on the track

What did he say?
When questioned if he was worried about being at the very back of the grid in 2016, with Haas F1 having Ferrari engines and Manor having a Merc unit in what is currently an engine formula, he replied that even an aeroplane engine wouldn't help Manor.

Looking at the state of the track I'd be surprised if there is much running at all in this first session
Problem is that rain is very likely in FP2, so they have to run now...

What a mess. I'm fine with a one hour session but not allowing them to use the extra set of primes that they are allowed is ridiculous. The sports management is so narrow and indecisive. What harm does it do to allow them the tyres? More laps for the fans.
I'm gonna be bored out of wits watching this.
I've got a nasty feeling it's something to do with having wasted the first half hour of the session (rather than just delaying the session and restarting the clock), and not being able to trigger the automatic enforcement of the extra tyre set in the monitoring software later in the session. But regardless it seems madness not to let them be used.

It probably wouldn't tbf. They'd be disqualified for a tech infringement.

BTW funny scene on the flight to Sochi on Wednesday when Adrian Sutil found himself sitting next to Monisha Kaltenborn
All we needed was Giedo van der Garde there too and it would have been a fascinating contractual debate

It's always nice to know that somewhere on the planet, F1 cars are racing around.
Even if it's just free Practise, or these days #FP #Russia.
It'll be interesting to see if the different tyre compounds have an immediate effect on the lap times.

Well, having cleaned up my fair share of large diesel, oil, and hydraulic fluid spills, I have to say I was surprised to see that they were trying to wash it off the track. I can't think of a single time we ever did that, and we always have a fire engine sitting right there while we clean it up. It's generally best to use an absorbent granular material to absorb as much as possible. Adding water to the mix just spreads it all out even futher and makes for an extremely slick surface.
It looks like too much of a mess to be hydraulic fluid in my opinion.
They're both extremely messy, just in different ways. I've seen hydraulic fluid spills that were a massive mess.

I think they said on the radio that they had initially tried that - maybe they then tried to was the surplus 'oil-dry' off.
Must admit that it looked a bit like there was a narrow fluid line round most of the circuit that had been treated at a few parts of the circuit.
