Ridiculous decision. Three more years of cheese tires, coasting, no properly working full-wet tires...

Given what I was told 3 weeks ago the teams & drivers won't be happy about this as they were all pretty much rooting for Michelin since they don't like the pirelli tyres, Don't trust them & don't have any faith that Pirelli could make the tyres any better even if they wanted to.

That's fine, Pirelli are a company well capable of building tyres to the spec F1 wants. Not the spec F1 needs but that's different...
According to F1 teams they are not capable of doing that. But Bernie is happy with his money I guess pffff

Expect more "it's track debris" comments from Pirelli when it comes to ANY puncture/tyre failure then. Can't exactly say I'm thrilled. Also don't think it's right that what in effect is a technical decision is decided on a commercial basis.

Good luck.
If it's done, it's done and there is no point in wishing Michelin or someone else were around.
I have my doubts with Pirelli, but at least there's some little hope.

From formula1.com sochi commentary:
"In terms of tyre strategy, Pirelli had hoped their tyre nomination for this race - supersoft and soft - would get the teams back in the two- to three-stop window, but the Italian manufacturer now expects most teams to adopt a one-stop strategy."

That is all.
Pretty sure you could find a photo of a Goodyear or Michelin shod F1 car in similar surroundings
They're doing what is asked of them simple

They're doing what is asked of them simple
No one has asked for marbles.
Tyre degradation and tyre wear are not the same thing.
Pirelli also has the power to resist the request to make this type of tyre.
My take is that Pirelli is not willing to invest more research (money) into developing a tyre with a higher technological standard.

Worth saying twice.
Disappointing, but not surprising news.

Pretty much every race I have watched in the last 20 years marbles have been an issue be it F1 or indycar
What do you expect to happen to the rubber?? Simply vanish?

Good. Michelin would only ever bring tyres Which last the whole race and make every race a one stopper again.
Actually Michelin said they would do tires that would require 2-3 stints per race, but the performance of the tire would allow pushing from start to finish.
But let's just regurgitate a tired old talking point that was not true because of one season (2005) where Max wanted tires that lasted the entire weekend.
Like I always say, you have to really wonder about a company who is willing to manufacture what amounts to a **** racing slick because they were asked to. Think about that for a second. Most tire manufacturers want to bring the best possible tire to a race series. Pirelli is content to do the complete opposite. Frankly. I will not buy a Pirelli road tire for this reason. They want to use F1 as an advertising platform, and I vote with my dollars as a result.
And for everyone else thinking Pirelli can build a better tire, they can, however Pirelli's best tire would still be worse than Michelin. Pirelli was never a great tire manufacturer when it came to F1 historically. When they had to compete against other manufacturers they were always behind the others.

Having racings sake Ive got to hope that Redbull now put their effort into WEC and that in doing so causes a catalyst for Renault to join them in the series.

Funny how all the "anticipated changes expected for 2017 to make F1 great again" are completely turning out to be NOTHING, now also including the tires!

This may well be the final straw for me, Michelin coming back & bringing proper racing tyres back into f1 was my final hope.
Guess there's always the wec & indycars, series that have proper racing tyres that drivers are able to push on.
no dumb racing system either.

Expected, Bernie gets "something extra" under the table having Pirelli in F1, so it was expected. I'm pretty sure Pirelli can do a good job but maybe the powers that be have another plans.

Pirelli is in an impossible position when it comes to pleasing fans, who put on the rose-tinted glasses when remembering tyre wars. Today's race was quite exciting, and F1 in general is more exciting and closer than it used to be.
but when you have drivers having to drive 3 or so seconds slower all race where they are unable to push at all without killing the tyres all that 'racing' means nothing.

It's not under the table, Pirelli paying Bernie millions for trackside advertising is fully in the open.

It was a decision for the shareholders of FOM, but not really anything else.
Yep, they are seen as controllable, as opposed to Michelin who are interested in pursuing a goal that does not correspond with FOM's goal...and FOM's goal benefits no one but FOM.
