Maybe in Austin they can also let loose with some sixshooters like in IndyCar.
Oh God. Don't tell Lewis!

What about selecting one driver after each race who then has to wear a dunce cap at the next event.
Who should be the chosen one after Sochi?

Maldonado. Always. Just because.

Can't see why not as long as they're not overdoing it.
Posted 12 October 2015 - 21:46
I like them, adds a bit of fun to the formalities.
And that russian hat looked far better than what Hamilton usually puts on his head.

Does anyone know ANY English person who wears a bowler hat?
I expect there are more Busby-wearers.
Busby is Hungarian traditionally even if more commonly associated with the UK. I do know a couple of people who wear a bowler hat regularly, but then they are in the Diplomatic Service (friends of my grandad).

As long as it doesn't spiral out of control, a Yay for me.
Posted 12 October 2015 - 23:22
I would say yes but I see a big problem with changing the podium hats each race.
I mean we, the fans watching, may get confused who the 3 guys in national hats on the podium are - they could be anyone. No its much safer to stick to baseball caps so we recognise them as the drivers.
(and yes I am still bitter about the ban on changing helmet designs )

You've obviously never come across British university student union officials before!
This reader comment from below that article sums them up perfectly: http://discussion.th...malink/60419890 (scroll about one-third down the page and it will be highlighted).

People who attempt to get their source of humour from 'wacky' headwear are worse than snakes and ought to be left pegged out in the desert. And I'm sure millions of Russians were just so happy to see their national identity reduced down to just a funny hat. Yes, I am grumpy.

Race winner Lewis Hamilton obviously did too because he was so disappointed not to see them back last year that he asked for (and got) Sheriff Andretti's so that his hat lust could be at least partially sated:
I've only just now realised that there's a Blazing Saddles joke in there somewhere.

Why stop at wearing traditional hats?
2016 Japanese podium outfit will look like
Posted 13 October 2015 - 11:11
I like the idea, but I even more like variety.
So I'd prefer a Russian bear on the Russian GP podium. And someone gave yesterday an even more great idea. Have Putin wrestle with that bear on the podium.

If the winner gets a sombrero in Mexico, can he get arrested for being a racist when he enters the UK? Please don't turn the drivers into clowns wearing local folklore! Look what happened to Bernie in Russia?

I'd say it would be obligatory. I can just imagine Hamilton, Vettel, Rosberg, Bottas all with stick on brows and 'taches!
