Similar to the Verstappen Family: Jan Magnussen is 42 now. So imagine he had made a return to F1 in the season 2014, father and son Magnussen would have raced against each other.

Had Jos Verstappen been as talented, fit and determined as Michael Schumacher was, and had Jos made an F1 comeback for 3 years at the same age as Michael did, then both Verstappens would be driving in F1 this season.

And possibly also both Magnussens!

Theoretically perhaps but in practice Jos gave up a lot of his time so he could teach and support Max. If Jos would have spend that time racing and trying to keep in shape Max probably would not have been where he is now.

Besides I think this forum would not have been able to handle two Verstappens and fans

Would it have been awesome to see Kimi Räikkönen and Johnny Herbert in Sauber C15 at the beginning of season 1996.

Sheesh - I remember when Kimi started all the news was about how incredibly young and inexperienced he was.  Puts Max (4 years earlier) into context.

Nothing beats the Damon Hill one for me. Although just think, if he'd taken up F1 racing in'77, he'd have been way too busy for his punk rock band, Sex Hitler and the Hormones.

That puts Max's achievements firmly in perspective.

Nice thread.. Can we now reverse it.. What if they kept driving till, assuming no death which great drivers could we still have on the grid, who would be still if they retired when Fangio did for instance?

Fangio retired at 47. Michael Schumacher is 46. David Coulthard and Rubens Barrichello would still have another three years left in F1. Giancarlo Fisichella would have four years left.

Extraordinary...

Get some dodgy photoshops together of Nigel Mansell walking round a black and white paddock with Jackie Stewart and Peter Revson and this is feature article material.

A complete five minute job:
