He's a perfect number 2. More than capable of handling his own, at times even beating Hamilton.

Well Toto gave a sigh when Rosberg went wide at the end. And Paddy Lowe gave him WTF are doing stare when he threw the cap back.

The question is, would Lewis Hamilton still drive into the second Mercedes at Turn One and not make the effort to turn the wheel if someone else was in the car and it wasn't a potential championship rival?

As a #2 driver, he's perfect as long as the car is so ridiculously dominant.
As a WDC contender, I don't see the point in having him in that car. He lacks the balls first and foremost and his teammate knows it.
I can't imagine Lewis pulling that move on Vettel or Alonso and surviving it.

Can't see him throwing the cap in yet....

If he 'would have had the balls' and crashed into Lewis in the first corner... the Hamilton-fans would make this site explode. And you too...

Yes. He brings home the best result available for Mercedes most of the time.

The thing is people tend to think he is cr@p just because he got beaten, but he can get the job done (finishing 2nd, whatever) and bag points for the team, so yeah, why wouldn't he be worth? It's not like he s the second Maldonado (that one might go to Kimi soon if he keeps failling... ).

I would have respected him more if he did it. What Lewis did was downright dirty and if you allow such a behavior, your teammate wouldn't hesitate to walk over you all the time.

Yes, he can get second.
He has also learned to get out of Hamilton's way when engaged in a battle for position, which was a bit of a downside to his performance last year.

Who cares? It's not what this topic is about. If you feel strongly about it you can open a thread on that topic.

People were clattering into each other all over the place. Racing incidents
Enjoy your tears 3x WDC!

That was irony. This thread is pointless imo

I don't think Maldonado is worth driving any F1 car either. But we've got this thread already

Man, Rosberg's face looked like a smacked bum there.

What was Nico meant to do? Not get out of the way and cause them both to crash?
Part of Nico's problem is he is not aggressive enough when up against Hamilton and Hamilton knows he has a massive advantage in that department. When they did collide last year, the whole team went mental and I genuinely believe from that point on it weakened Rosberg, I said as much at the time.

Mmm... I don't know you well enough to assess. Anyways, I am damn sure about the reactions of 90 percent of the posters here if Rosberg had steered into Hamilton.
I can name two drivers who would be better than Rosberg... and that is about it. And I don't think one of them at Mercedes is realistic.

For fans, during a year like this, it's not great. Would love to see Vettel, Alonso, Ricciardo etc in the same team as Hamilton.
But I suspect they'll just keep on renewing his contract, to keep the balance within the team. A shame.

I do get what you mean, I've said it since last year that Nico needs to show Lewis that he is not going to be the one to take avoiding action if he gets too close. Lewis knows he can push hard against Nico because ultimately, Nico will be the one to yield. Had he not yielded today I'd like to think Rosberg wouldn't have had a finger pointed at him but personally, I think he would have and people would see it as Nico trying to sabotage Lewis's WDC bid.

That's precisely my point. Rosberg is mentally crushed and can't be aggressive enough against Hamilton. So as a WDC contender, his value is zero and I'd prefer to see another driver in that car. Maybe even two other drivers, just to spice things up.

He's good enough if Mercedes remain dominant. But they could struggle if another team are as quick as Merc. There's no way he should be 3rd in one of the most dominant cars of all time.
He has underperformed just as much as Raikkonen has relative to Vettel. The difference is, his car is fast enough that he can rack up the 2nd places and the occasional win when Hamilton is not on his A game.
