It needs to be announced because the FIA race director believes, and I'm not sure other words can properly describe the notion, that - in his words - 'circuits are designed so that going off track should always be slower'. As a consequence, he is well within the regulations not to pursue these excursions because the fact that such detours 'should always be slower' means, at least to him, that it is impossible to gain any 'lasting advantage' (20.2).
Thanks for that. Doesn't he realize that words like "never" and "always", do not apply to racing situations. I wonder if he has ever raced, or even watched a race in this century.

Consistent as always, is Lewis.

The track is not the ultimate driving challenge like Spa or Silverstone. But it has a certain charisma, i have to admit. It's nice to see them doing laps around here.

Now Hellmund has dropped another bomb: Working on another GP in North America.
... just when you thought Bernie and his friends couldn't scratch more down our pockets!
Obviously on the west cost?

@crash_F1: VET: Can you take each other out at the start and let me through?
*po-faced silence from HAM & ROS*
VET: No? Oh, OK... I tried

Those two really are miserable >.< I would kinda want Vettel back on top simply because as he's matured, he's just become a more likeable guy. That being said, after last week, those two crashing out isn't really off the cards.

Yeah! 4 seconds faster than the 2007 Champ Car pole time at 100x the budget!

Not sure I understand the bolded... what are they meant to say in that awkward situation. Their relationships broken down as it is... They acknowledged it, smiled and wanted to get out of each others company. I've also warmed towards Vettel in this past year, but I want to see an epic battle between him and Lewis, hopefully next year eh. Should be interesting tomorrow at the first stages of the race anyway.

How about referring to that time Vettel ran into his team-mate. Hamilton even had a front-row seat!
The way these two continue to fall silent is indeed rather boring. Perhaps Mercedes instructed them not to get involved in any more of Vettel's antics after Rosberg's rather silly Malaysia invitation.

Vettel has always been a lot of fun imo. Even whilst I was bitter as anything about his on track success off track he has always been cool.

He's always had a keen sense of humour, but at times in the past he could be a little petulant. And don't mention the finger... He's definitely matured though and is obviously experiencing serious schadenfreude through the ructions at Mercedes. Anyways, back on topic - rain 50-60% during the race according to Wunderground, and no rain overnight, so the conditions should be roughly the same at the start of the race as they were in qualifying.

He's only more 'likable' now because he's not dominating anymore.

The apple weather app has chance of rain at 30% at 12:00, 60% 13:00 - 16:00 and then 90% thereafter. So it sounds like rain is almost definitely coming, just a question of whether it arrives before, during or after.

It's hard to be funny when you dominate. Funny then becomes smug.
Says more about 'us' than about Vettel.

Huffing about a couple of drivers not playing up to a humororus suggestion of crashing beyond a wry smile is more than daft. There has been plenty spoken about that little bump at T1 by both drivers, and the team, so I don't see your point, apart from it being a derived from a petty need to complain.

There was nothing 'funny' about the finger thing. That was just his way of celebrating. Again, only reason people ever held it against him was because he was dominating. I've honestly never seen people be so petty about something on such a mass scale, but there ya go.Excatly.The wagging fore finger started off being well funny....

One of the first things they teach people in politics is "do not point" .... many people find it offensive on a very visceral level - and dont even know it

Early for margaritas? It has to be 5pm somewhere.
