"RoC got us good. They said there would be a kart race among the F1 drivers so we would tune in. But there isn't any kart race. The article about the kart race is apparently deleted." - Someone who was there

As they already prepared the karts I guess they cancelled it because they went over shedule, what a disgrace! I was anticipating this race much more than the event!

Very disappointing! Especially if people bought tickets primarily because of the kart race...

They should have charged more for tickets. Perhaps then they might have had the resources.

Statistics...
Today's times have been a lot slower than yesterday's due to the partially wet track. So it doesn't make sense to compare them with the ones from the Nations Cup.
Today we've been seeing a total of 41 races. Again starting from the inside was a little bit better, 23 race have been won that way compared to 18 from the outside. 38 out of those 41 races have been won in only 2 heats, there were only 3 matches that needed a deciding 3rd race (Priaulx vs Wehrlein, Priaulx vs Buncombe, Vettel vs Coulthard).
Here are the best times. Since we had a best-of-3-mode there have always been minimum 2 races between the same drivers with the same car. Almost every time both drivers were able to improve their time from one heat to the next one. So I've decided to mark each time with a "Heat 1", if it was the first (slower) heat, a "Heat 2" for the 2nd and a "Heat 3" for third.
One should also note, that the track became a bit better from hour to hour.
ROC Car
No surprise that Vettel managed to set the best time in his favourite car, the ROC buggy. But Kristensen would have been the toughest opponent if they had used it in the final as planned, having set the 2nd and 5th overall best time in that car and the best time in a first heat beating Vettels first heat best time!
Euro Nascar
Kristensen 1:08.0487 Heat 2 inside
Kristensen 1:08.3439 Heat 1 outside
Piquet 1:08.9846 Heat 1 inside
Wehrlein 1:10.4898 Heat 1 inside
It's Vettel again with Coulthard a respectable mention.
Mercedes-AMG GT S
Only 2 matches, but both very close to each other (in terms of when they happened), so at least comparable times. But no Vettel, no Kristensen, so it's Jason Plato who set the best time.
Whichever car Vettel had to drive today (only these 3: X-Bow, Radical, ROC Buggy) - he always has set the best time.
And here are the most succesfull drivers of this year's ROC:
Driver wins losses (ROC only)
Vettel 8 1 89%
Kristensen 6 2 75%
Coulthard 5 2 71%
Buncombe 6 3 67%
Priaulx 5 3 63%

Massa 2 2 50%
Plato 2 2 50%
Hunter-Reay 2 2 50%
Philpot 2 2 50%
Wehrlein 1 2 33%
All other participants: 0%
Driver wins losses (ROC + Nations cup combined)
Vettel 10 2 83%
Priaulx 12 3 80%
Kristensen 8 3 73%
Buncombe 7 4 64%
Coulthard 5 3 63%
Hülkenberg 5 3 63%
Wehrlein 3 3 50%

Yeah, disappointed that they didn't have the kart race. I would have been more disappointed had I gone (I was thinking about buying tickets) and then been told it wasn't going to happen, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few miffed punters out there.
(Apparently, the kart race was cancelled as there was no point running it without Max Verstappen - he would have destroyed the field in a kart. )

Just got home. It was so cold. So so cold. I am yet to thaw.
I wasn't going then today booked tickets through Yplan at 50% off and £7 discount for joining Yplan. £43 for 2 tickets which turned out to be in the closest row to the track right where the cars entered the stadium.

Enjoyed today and I'm glad to say my son Jenson did too - he's only 4 so I didn't know how he'd bear up with how cold it was but he was fine, didn't complain once about it ! One of the highlights of the day was watching Terry Grant stunt driving again!

I wasn't sure whether to go or not, but hearing that there would be a kart race with Hulk, Massa, Button, Ricciardo et al swung it for me. I waited for half an hour after it finished but everyone left and nothing else seemed to be happening so I went too, disappointed that they didn't tell us it was cancelled.
It was quite an enjoyable day, as said before most of the cars were far too big for that track. I paid £60 for my ticket and not entirely convinced it was good value for money, glad I didn't pay more than that. Not bad entertainment but I can easily think of a few ways to make it better. Maybe schedule it next year so that some WEC and Nascar drivers can join in.

Got to agree here £60 was pricey, I was absolutely not going until I saw an on the day deal for £25 or so per ticket. I was surprised as to how good our seats were considering the price and last minute purchase.
No one in front of us, as close as you could get to the 'circuit'. I have a shoddy video or two on my phone to show you:
Again I have to agree, the cars were on the whole too big for the circuit. They needed to be smaller and nimble. For me too the main event would definitely have been a kart race between all competitors.
Had a lot of fun though, not been before. I think it would be even better if we saw the drivers in the stadium out of their cars too though, maybe bring 1 or 2 out of the paddock area between their own races to commentate on the very short races so we get to see them a little throughout the day.

Just watched it and enjoyed the races! I think the format was quite entertaining (especially since I could fast forward when there was no show/race on ).
And as Vettel himself said more or less directly, not having to stay out too long as team Germany was only 2nd the day before may have helped him.

Thanks a lot for posting these statistics!
Why doesn't Danny Ricciardo show up there, didn't he win a single race? (
All other participants: 0%)?
I couldn't follow the races live, only watched several youtube vids today, but none with RIC as contestant.
Thanks, Racer3

Smashed by Vettel in the Nations Cup, and obliterated by Hulkenberg in the Drivers Cup.
3 races, 3 defeats.

Ricciardo was pretty unlucky. His first race against Vettel was pretty close (I think, after the 1st of the 2 laps Ricciardo was in front) and you could see, Vettel was MEGA motivated to beat him.
Hülkenberg had already driven the AMG twice on Friday, Ricciardo never, so Hulk definitely had a little advantage before their 2 races on Saturday.
For the Ricciardo-fans:
As mentioned before in this thread on Friday evening after the Nations Cup there has been a "secret" bonus race. David Coulthard in a Caterham vs. Danny Ricciardo in a Zenos E10S. Just watch for yourself:

Did not see it, is not what it used to be the usual commercialization of everything. It is noteworthy though, how Tom Kristensen have featured strongly last 4 times, I would SO MUCH have liked to see what he could have done in F1.

Regarding the cancellation of the karting 'safety reasons' - They ran a kart race in the morning, presumably without the tech-pro barriers, so why the problem?
My guess would be either A)They over ran the schedule or B) The kart race was never part of the deal and when it was announced in the week, the driver's insurers threw a sh**fit.

I didn't realise that there was a thread about this. I went on Saturday. I wasn't going to go, but got a last minute ticket for £30 which was about 5 rows from the front, so I had a very good view. But it was cold. So, so cold. I missed the quarter finals as I had to go and get a coffee as I couldn't feel my feet anymore!
I must admit I didn't realise there was supposed to be a kart race, so that didn't sway me one way or another. It was great to see a good variety of cars. The Euro Nascars sounded like absolute beasts, but the track was too compact for them really, which is probably why Wehrlein stacked one The Mercedes F1 2013 sounded amazing too, and the AMG Mercs did have an awesome growl when someone floored them.
Would I go again? Not sure. I wouldn't have paid more than about £35. OK the weather can't be helped, but I felt that throughout the event there were a few niggling problems. A few of the cars were faulty, which made the final a bit of an anti-climax. Some spectators had to complain that the bus that brought the drivers in was blocking their view for a while before they eventually moved it. And I know that they have to fill in time whilst cars and drivers are swapped etc. but if someone could handcuff Terry Grant to a seat for a while, that would be great. I felt for the cheerleaders. I can't imagine having to hang around out there in freezing temperatures!

Belated report... took my 3 little boys with me on the Saturday - they had a great time and no boredom which is always a good sign. Wrapped them up in their ski clobber so no complaints about the cold either!
Me, well, I'd only heard about the karting rumour on here and I'd already bought the tickets by then so not a particular disappointment if I'm honest.
But I do have some complaints about the day... Firstly, considering I live in North London, I think it would have been more convenient if it had been held in Glasgow, seriously, is there a more difficult place to get to than the Olympic Park?! Also, organisation was a bit iffy, the first race was messed up by Hunter Rey not going the correct way to line up for the 2nd heat and then in that race they threw the chequered flag a lap early. Not a great start, but then after all that shenanigans it settled down and the action was ok, but it's all a bit slow looking - unfortunately given the track layout.
All in all it was a decent day out for the kids, it was quite show-bizy like a top gear show or something. I personally much prefer the classier Goodwood FOS for my unconventional motorsport fix...
