A statement said its new MSV France arm will turn the former Laon-Couvron military airbase "into a huge motorsport village, with the focus being a magnificent five-mile circuit, featuring a uniquely long 1.5-mile main straight where top speeds of over 200 mph will be possible, together with fast flowing corners and extensive run-off areas".

Though Laon's primary use will be track days, corporate events and testing, it will also host four race meetings each season, focusing on sportscars, historic, club and motorcycle racing.

Anyone got a circuit layout map?

Wooowwwww, a long straight! Combined with extensive run-off areas, this must be one unique circuit.

Whilst not wishing to sound like a spoilsport, I hope that BSB isn't going there. I love Assen, but I don't think BSB should be there either. BSB should be going to Croft and Mallory Park before it considers branching out. It's a national championship.

It looks to be close to the Belgian-French border.

As a belgian, for me the Laon-Couvron airbase is closer than Spa-Francorchamps :)

as a belgian myself, first thing i did was to look up how close it is to my hometown ...

not as close as spa in my case, but close enough for a visit. :)

Cool, no one's built an airfield track for a while. Hope the corners are actually fast and flowing and don't just look like it and turn out to all be in second gear like Nu-Snetterton.

Is it wrong that my first thought was as a potential trackday venue rather than actually hosting racing!! 1.5 mile straight will be pretty dull for most road cars.

I'll be interested to see if this starts getting flagged as a potential venue for a French GP at some point!

I dont get the attraction of a 1.5 mile straight .....why not go back to banking if they just want to high speed zone?

This is clearly modelled on Palmer's very successful Bedford Autodrome, also developed on a former air base.  That is entirely for track day and testing and has never AFAIK hosted any racing at all.  It is presumably financially worthwhile and hence Palmer wants to replicate it in France.  Racing will probably never take place except perhaps club level stuff with no public attendance.

French F4, FFSA GT, maybe GT4 Europe, almost sounds like a track that could've fitted on the Auto GP calender (if it were still around).

Actually, I quite like this area of backwoods France . . . good food and not expensive . . . maybe a day out could be combined with the WW1 'battlefield tours' which are popular in the area.

Hmm... a fairly generic airfield track, to host Ferrari track days and the like.  That's good I suppose. :)

For a second I was hoping for a revival of the great Charade circuit at Clermond Ferrand. It has great corners with great elevation change! Too bad :(
