Because the media interest was amazing the year before Red Bull took over WRC Promotion?

ISC/NorthOne were pretty hopeless, and RedBull have been extremely disappointing. They've had 3 years, and I don't think things are generally better. There is a clue in the job description; 'Promote'. Take this weekend; GB is a country that has very little mainstream interest - so RedBull should be making an effort to sell the event/ sport. It's not rocket science.

As with a lot of promoters, they sell TV rights, and don't do the hard work of promotion.

Being in the UK right now, I though there would be ads at least somewhere for the event. No ads, no one knows it was even on. Pfffff. Even in Romania we had ads for the National Championship and the pseudo-ERC Sibiu round. What a damn shame.

Congrats to Ogier for the win, that bloody boring git.

Caught some of the woeful LIVE coverage over the weekend. Seriously, why bother? No sound, no live timing, just cars driving down the same 500m of gravel. The panning shots of the surrounding countryside were genuinely more interesting.

While i'm moaning - I was chatting with a mate about the state of WRC. He said something that struck a chord. The WRC class cars just look like buggies and are so far removed from normal car dynamics in the way they handle. Personally, i'd like to see them go back to bigger models, tighten up the suspension regs and open up the engines. They all sound like those horrid Swindon BTCC motors at the mo!

I like the Rally GT class idea, but don't see that taking off.

Meeke did well to keep Ogier honest, but you can never really tell with him how hard he's pushing.

Meeke did well; drove at a fast, but safe consistent pace - and was realistic that Ogier was well in control. Couldn't have done a lot more, especially as he was under orders to finish, so Citroen could claim 2nd in the manufacturers race.

Red Bull should not be able to promote a world championship, they are a brand, that was a pathetic decision in the first place. Especailly when they have sponsored the two bigest teams at the time.

Why on earth would you spend millions promoting a championship that has proved over many year that it is the live aspect that sells, not the tv.

Especially when you personally sponsor the majority of the winners in the rallies, both drivers and teams anyway. That way yoou do not need to spend a penny promoting anything as VW or Citroen who you also sponsor do it for you after you have given them 2 or 3 mill for the year, then you let their marketing team do all your work promoting their team and your championship!!

Disgraceful decision all round.

Well, you were in England. Mrs Risil's granddad, who lives about 10 miles from one of the service parks, reported that they did indeed have adverts on the local TV.

I think Wales has a very nice, well-attended, well-promoted regional event in the Rally GB, but it's come at the expense of the UK as a whole even knowing there is a World Rally Championship.

Still the WRC is in a weird twilight zone at the moment.

I saw the highlights on TV: it looked very picturesque and exciting, and the radio coverage is as engrossing as live motorsport gets. But I literally stop thinking about it the moment I'm not actively paying attention.
