1. Why TCR and not more presitgious WTCC?

Because TCR is new and put 30 cars on the grid, whereas WTCC is in its last legs and will have half of that in Qatar next week, with 4 of them the Citroens.

There is only a full grid because it is Macau and you always get a lot of entries from East Asia.  Normally TCR has a smaller grid than WTCC and is an equally poor series - just read SEAT instead of Citroen.

Bit harsh. They've average over 20 cars per weekend, and the Seat's aren't factory run, unlike the Citroens.

Equally the Civics have won their fair share of Race 1s in TCR, whereas the only way anyone other than Citroen wins the feature race in WTCC is if they all take each other out at the start.

TCR is far from perfect, but it's in far ruder health than WTCC which will go the way of Auto GP in the imminent future.

Factory run or not, it is the same cars at the front each time, so it doesn't really make any difference.  WTCC is an FIA championship and will doubtless continue in some shape or form.  TCR will either get absorbed or will wither away.  We don't need two poor touring car series each damaging the other.

Not really too familiar with this track but it looks insane.

Completely agreed that we don't need both, which is why WTCC will dissolve pretty sharpish. With Citroen halving their cars next year, you're already looking at realistically 10-12 car grids.

Not that it will boost the grid in any shape or form, but the Citroëns that leave, will be replaced by some Volvos

Oh, quoting myself! :) As Seb Loeb Racing will continue, the grid might be boosted.
