That's pretty much all there is to say.

#17 Porsche in pole position. Carrying a 13-point lead. I dare not say anything more than that for fear of jinxing them.

Quali highlights:

Race starts SATURDAY at 15:00 Bahrain time. Aka 14:00 in Eastern Europe, 13:00 in Central Europe, 12:00 for all you Brits out there, whatever it is around the world for everyone else.

So...

...

... world title for Mark Webber?

And as an additional thing: the fastest lap of the #17 Porsche in qualifying would have put it 19th on the F1 grid earlier in the year, just ahead of the second Manor.

i thought they could turn off or turn down the headlight there if they have floodlights   :drunk:

if they wont for the race I'll have to get my sunglasses out

Headlights are always on, even during daytime, that's what the regulations mandate them to do.

As for the power cut, they red-flagged the session because they didn't set up the marshals' posts with enough safety equipment and lighting for racing in total darkness.

I dont know why but headlights are being particular annoyance this time. Wasnt this annoying at Lemans etc afaicr. Maybe due to camera positioning for this particular tack i'm not sure....dont remember how it was like in prev years at Sakhir tho, either i didnt watch or it's due to these newer laser beam lights or else :well:

my eyes! :drunk:

Maybe it's just FOM-spec camera angles due to the fact that we have GP2 and GP3 there this weekend.   And just like Pirelli and Michelin tires don't mix well on the track surface, maybe FOM camera angles don't mix well with headlights. :D

camera posts are the same or not? But WEC and GP2/3 being held together could actually be one factor, I mean I watched GP2 (have no headlights) under daylight (normal and frequent occurrence) followed immediately by WEC (have headlights) night session under floodlight (rare occurrence) on the same circuit, so kind of psychological thing due to the sudden difference perhaps. :drunk:

go Webbo and #17 :D

A few places... Spa, CoTA and Bahrain have all been Saturday races this year, and Bahrain has been a Saturday race for the last few years.

Literally just said to my missus that Webber will be a world champion today if his car doesn't break down. No sooner had I finished that sentence and the comms are saying "the leader is slow!"

Unbelievable.

Dramatic stuff though.

Where is the no.7 Audi on engine use? On which engine are they? Is it fresh?

(following the slight issue raised after Le Mans)

Would be gutted to see Hartley miss out, but unashamedly delighted to see Webber miss out, so a huge personal conflict.

I think they've been running the same engine they put in in Nurburging, no?

if they face no more problems, they'll surely be in top6. that means Lotterer & co needs to win it, right? you could say chances are pretty even.

how is the #18 third? now the #7 is practically first, that means #17 has to be top4 to clinch it, right?

The #17 led comfortably 'til throttle leakage issues which cost them 8 minutes in the pits. They are 16th in the LMPs standing right now, but they need to be 4th to be absolutely safe if the #7 wins.

All in all, typical day for a Webber fan.

The #17 had a throttle linkage problem, lost 4 laps. But they are lapping quickly in the 1.44s so it's still possible.

thanks! so now advantage #7, they are virtually leading, while 4th could be a bit hard for #17, that needs constant ~3 seconds on the toyotas. not impossible at all, though.

The #17 is consistently about three seconds faster than second Toyota but only two seconds faster than the lead Toyota.

I guess in this case #18 would stop a bit in the garage (or whereever) to give #17 the position they need

on a second thought, I didn't account for toyota's 1 lap from the lead audi, so it is more in the ~2,5 sec ballpark. that seems much more probable.  :|

and yeah, also forgot about #18.

so it took 1h 30 min for the leaders to lap the slower toyota, that means if the #17 goes the same pace as the leaders, they can gain 3 laps til the end. they are 3 laps something back... damn, too close to call now.

but irrelevant of pace, if only one car from the top5 minus the #18 hits any problems, the #18 heads for the pits for "checkups" and the 17 is in winning position.

The Toyotas are now lapped for the 2nd time. #17 has reduced the gap to them now from 4 to 2 laps. Half of the race is almost over. This will be damn close.

Otherwise as you said: #18 all in for the win?

Thats exciting!
