Ciao to all the forum members.

I would like to ask your opinion on this link here below about Colin Chapman's death.

To be more precise, about the fact that maybe Colin Chapman get killed.

I am not advocate anything, I would like to hear you, about how much plausible is this theory.

You have to know that I am a reader about anything related to JFK assassination.

During my endless resarch about this topic I stumbled upon this radio transmission, from Mae Brussels.

You have to know that this lady from Carmel Caiifornia, in his radio shows, during the 1968 and from then onward,

was saying things, about Kennedy,  totally unbelievable for that time, only to discover decades later that she was totally right.

So her opinions based on hard work research deserve some credit. Or surely tasted the stand of time. To say at least.

At the same time, people so conspiracy oriented, tend to see conspiracy everywhere, and in those years,

London was very far from California. I mean the fact could have been very distorted from London to Carmel.

So I really dont know what to think.

The part related to Colin Chapman starts at 50:30 and ends at 53:00

If it doesn't work you have to search this on YouTube:

Mae Brussell - Henry Kissinger: NARCOTICS EMPEROR - (8-1-83)

Ciao to all.

Somebody told me - an ex Lotus employee that he had seen ACBC at Brand Hatch , holding court in the bar in late 80s. I treated that story with the same derision as JFK conspiracy theories and I alos don't think Prince Philip ;murdered Diana Spencer... So I tend to believe that ACBC did indeed die from natural causes.

But maybe I am part of the conspiracy of silence - cue spooky music .

Plenty of stuff online regarding the missing Govt. money, who from Lotus had their noses in the trough and what was going on with Delorean etc. etc. I say natural causes is the most likely.as he was a man under pressure.

Colin Chapman was a hypochondriac, I saw what was in his desk drawers, and the inflatable rubber ring on his chair, which punctured the bubble slightly for me. He was known to be taking unapproved medication for various real or imagined afflictions, a heart attack brought on by that and stress was highly probable if not inevitable, he shouldn't really have been flying himself around.

No grassy knolls in Hethel or East Carleton.

I find so many outpourings from the conspiracy theory cult - if that's the right word - either deeply irritating or deeply offensive, especially when it involves somebody that one knew.

ACBC ran out of luck - in part I think quite possibly due to using unapproved medication as Rob mentions above, and by that I do not mean taking so-called 'recreational' drugs.

As a man, he was a constantly buzzing dynamo, he was undeniably driven, he was intensely competitive, he was embattled, he was under under pressure, he was vain - he was conspicuously appearance-conscious - and perhaps above all he had fought a lifelong battle against a natural propensity to put on weight.

Some slimming aids from foreign sources - much praised and recommended by high-flying acquaintances - were either then or subsequently connected by experienced medical and regulatory bodies with potentially catastrophic side effects...

I would never have bought a used car from him - but in all other respects he was certainly a man of colossal historical stature...at the time of his premature death one being hounded by political midgets who were in most respects unfit even to lick his boots...

When someone does wrong sadly those midgets though have to throw their weight around too, and they have simply done what the rest of us do, gravy.

I watched the DeLorean stuff from various sources and it was not pleasant viewing for Chapman, I also did not have much time for a man that built that though super fast, were more fragile than most motorbikes of the same era!

I don't find them offensive, but I do find them exasperating. At a certain point, the very lack of evidence becomes 'evidence' - it just shows how sophisticated the 'cover-up' was. Caomplete lack of substantiation becomes construed as 'proof'. When it reaches that stage - and it usually does - one is dealing with an article of faith, not evidence.

Colin Chapman was a complex inspiration to almost everyone who knew or worked with him, admittedly more faults than you could shake a stick at, but can we now leave him to rest in peace? Not many people are able to leave a legacy of the size and quality that he did, how many here know that in addition to the cars, he also designed microlights, fast boats and office furniture? A memorable and impressive life, going somewhat off the rails at the end, but after all this time, we should let some sleeping dogs lie.

E1pix.

In Queen's English the term "high-flyer" refers to someone enjoying considerable success in their career - usually in a field such as business, politics....

It think it most unlikely that Doug's comment was directed at flight attendants.

Errrmmm - with an aviating son it was not.  And nor have many merely fragile cars won multiple race series, multiple Championships and the Indy '500'.

Hi, Doug:

No worries, I thought your comment was suggesting flight attendants were giving Mr. Chapman diet pills.

Just clarifying that my wife and her co-workers never did that, nothing insulting.  :)

And by the way, I adored Colin.

Darn it, now you've made me curious! There's nothing more entertaining than a stupid conspiracy theory... :stoned:

Not particularly interested in conspiracy theories, especially as his close relations probably look at this forum. It can't be edifying for them. (But facts, yes)

But an aside - since his passing & the (several) turnovers of ownership of Lotus Cars, it is at least gratifying that photographic portraits of him still hang in the buildings. Indeed, the main reception area still has some superb photographs from the 'old days'.

I recently had to sit through a particularly boring & trivial meeting in the boardroom at Hethel. All I could think of was what conversations & decisions must have gone there. (I was a huge Lotus fan when I was young) The wooden table looked like it might be from that era too.

Forgotten what the meeting was about...

Yes, and that's what all but one of us have been feeling all along.

I see nothing in bad taste here.  I don't hold with any of the conspiracy theories myself, but it was a very murky end to what had been a stellar career so it is not surprising that some questions remain.

I don't think any of us - not even MonzaDriver, who started the thread - really gives this any credence whatsoever. I have a feeling we have had at least one previous thread on this - not to mention the equally ludicrous theories about Ronnie Peterson (which recently resurfaced again) - but I think it's worth pointing out that it has given members the opportunity to debunk it. I'm referring here particularly to Doug's and Rob's contributions, which add irrefutable personal detail as evidence, while Peter Coffman's probably sums up most of our views on conspiracy theories.

Like BRG, I don't see it as 'bad taste' but I doubt there's much - or anything really - of value which can be added here and in deference to Cedric's post it is hereby locked. I could of course simply delete the entire thread, but sooner or later someone else would come along and start another. By leaving it here as a reference, we can perhaps 'head that off at the pass' and also allow TNF to function as a repository of knowledge.

If anyone has anything relevant which they wish to add, please contact me by PM.
