So in a hypothetical world, a racing genie has popped out of a (beer) bottle and offered you the chance to drive one historic racing car on one track for a day.
What would you choose and why? Your own mortality and driving abilities would be relevant here.
Personally, I would take an F2004 out for a day at the A1 ring. I grew up a Ferrari/MSC fan, and I think the 2004 car is the pinnacle of that relationship. Also, it's possible to up the electronic nanny systems in that car to a level where even a complete amateur like me would at least have a better chance of getting around a corner without spinning off, and the A1/Red Bull Ring is a scenic place with relatively few corners so it wouldn't be too much of a challenge to learn and the consequences of going off would be limited.
Sure, a Lotus 98T with 1,200HP at the original Spa would be fun in a video game, but if presented with the opportunity in real life I'd probably piddle around in 2nd gear, terrified of losing control and hitting a hedgerow at 190. At least in the F2004 I could maybe touch full throttle once or twice. Hell, with any of the H-pattern cars I'd probably end up stalling it and/or dropping it from 5th to 2nd.
2nd place for me would be a classic 12 cylinder machine like a 312PB at Le Mans, purely to enjoy the sound.
