Well, just heard from Greg Mildren and not him as you said Lee. I'll eat a slice of humble pie but not the whole lot as the track announcer did say Greg Mildren in the ex Bartlett car as I did a double take when he said it - obviously a slip of the tongue. Neil Hammond reckons it was Greg Ferrall - he was racing an Elfin VW in the F2 Championship at that time so was at least an open-wheeler driver. Could be right.

... No wings, of course. Bartlett and Geoghegan had wings, but not the Mono. Two months later they'd be back and Frank did a 1:27.2 with the bi-wing setup shown in the other pics.
No bi-wing setup on the Friday.

I admit, I'm only guessing about wing configuration on Saturday, but he's unlikely to have run it on Sunday without having run it Saturday.

If it was at AIR I can understand. Tony Grove muddled names nearly as bad as Murray Walker.
Greg Ferrall may be right, he was an open wheel driver. I do not remember the car but I seldom noticed them anyway.
Greg did drive a few different open wheelers. The Elfin GE225 springs to mind in F2.
His brother Dave raced Sports Sedans and later Sprintcars, with his business partner Gil Cameron [5000s] Road & Track here in Adel.

Yes, that prompts my memory and I can confirm that it was Greg Ferrall who bought the sub from Ray Winter. I think that he got it as a roller without engine.
Although the first 1850cc TC4V did use a Ford cylinder block there was just about nothing else Ford in it. The engine was clearly inspired by the FVA but it was not simply a Cosworth copy and had a lot or original Merv Waggott in it. Merv built it in the expectation that CAMS would stick with their decision to adopt a 2 litre limit for ANF1 and he was pretty shattered when they brought in F5000. He had a lot of emotional energy invested in the TC4V and, although there was some pay off for him when Leo won the Gold Star using the engine in the Lotus 59, I think Merv was pretty disappointed that it went no further than that.
