There are good and bad seasons, and the same can be said about races. Usually best races have lots of surprises and worst races see almost nothing happening.

So I thought which race fits the season pattern. I have seen full seasons from 1993 so I reveal my picks for those. But I go first to this season which has just ended.

All in all, there was not much surprises. Top three was very clear, so it has to be a race where Hamilton, Rosberg and Vettel complete the podium. Even preferred is when it happens in that order, as it was five times this year.

Quite interestingly, two of them were among those which had lots of excitement: Silverstone and Austin. I have to remove those from the options. That leaves Melbourne, Shanghai and Suzuka. Then I remove Melbourne because of the major problems for the grid (only 15 drivers started).  Shanghai and Suzuka also had Räikkönen 4th and Williams driver 5th. But in general, how the Suzuka race unfolded turns my choice towards Chinese Grand Prix this time.

My picks also for the other seasons:

1993 South Africa: Some superb driving by Senna early but in the end Prost goes ahead and takes an easy win.

1994 San Marino: As a season which is remembered of tragedy, the worst of it is en easy selection.

1995 France: Benetton outsmarts Williams with tactics.

1996 Canada: A fair battle of two Williamses but Hill wins. Ferrari struggles with reliability.

1997 Europe: A strange season as Schumacher and Villeneuve were never together on the podium. So I selected the controversial finale.

1998 Austria: McLaren domination but Schumacher fights hard, not making it.

1999 Brazil: McLaren has lots of issues but overcomes them to win.

2000 Europe: Lot of rainy races. Schumacher and Häkkinen are well ahead of others and Schuey wins.

2001 Monaco: Seems close in the beginning but in the end it's an easy win for Schumacher and Ferrari.

2002 Italy: Williams was very fast in qualifying but it's complete Ferrari dominance otherwise.

2003 Austria: Schumacher has struggles but in the end he beats Räikkönen. Montoya has mechanical failures at very bad moments.

2004 Australia: Ferrari domination from the beginning to the end.

2005 Germany: Räikkönen and McLaren were the fastest but not reliable. Alonso says thanks.

2006 Canada: Alonso is the favourite for majority of the time. Schumacher comes close in the end.

2007 China: Hamilton looks set for the glory but in the end Räikkönen takes it.

2008 Monaco: Hamilton doesn't have a clean season but he takes the glory.

2009 Australia: Button and Brawn win through it comes close in the end.

2010 Hungary: If Vettel and Webber had been other way around this would be good: Red Bull has all kind of things happening against them, but in the end it it's a victory for them.

2011 Italy: Red Bull is not the fastest on straights. But it's the overall package which decides and it's an easy win.

2012 Singapore: McLaren and Hamilton are fast but fragile. Vettel wins.

2013 India: In the early part it looks tough but not in the end.

2014 Britain: Mercedes is a class of their own pace-wise but they struggle with reliability sometimes. Ricciardo and Bottas are revelations of the season.

As you can see, many of the races have been won by eventual champion - 1997, 2002 and 2010 are exceptions in my books. In the latter two it's the team-mate who won that race.

In fairness, most of the races summed up this season - one gigantic yawn.
